so what. is this jr high? go drink your pre spray

You know I was kind of playing on my initial answer to the question as to “who are you?” The simple fact that you went out of your way to try to insult me just makes me wonder how boring must your life be? Do you ever party? Do you think everyone who partakes in mind altering or mood enhancing substances are “low class” or as you say “trailer trash”? I’m not trying to get in a pissing contest with you however before you go out of your way to insult someone who you know practically nothing about maybe you should reconsider. It’s one thing to be a internet troll but to put yourself on some pedestal because you choose not to partake in extracurricular booger sugar or happy grass or the occasional pain killer is just ass backwards. Who are you to judge me? I got my business in order, pay my bills on time and have fun. Also there is always going to someone out there who is bigger and badder than you more handsome and more successful more happy, have a sexier wife, cooler friends and all in all just lives a better life than you. Don’t try to bring me down cause your life isn’t what you wanted it to be. Just do better! We both have the same 24 hours what you choose to do with that time in and off the field is totally up to you! Just stop living like you have a stick up your ass and mind your business you’ll live longer. I know it’s super hot in Yuma and it’s probably contributing to your anger but take your misery elsewhere.

I wish you the best Mister

I'm Gregg Sargent. I have been in the industry for 18 years. This industry has allowed me to work from home a lot especially the last 7 years. I love helping clients calm down and building trust. I will have to say though my favorite part is helping other people get their companies up and running. Whether it is carpet cleaning, restoration, plumbing, asbestos or any other industry. I find satisfaction in the accomplishments of others. Over the years I have helped multiple friends start successful businesses. Now I do it full time across the entire country.

My main motivation for working from home most of the time is my family. Every day is a good one that I get to spend with my wonderful wife Robyn and our 10 children. I have lost many close family members over the years so I have learned to appreciate each day that I have with them.

I also enjoy playing chess, fuzzball, ping pong and any other game that I don't have to run all over the place.

I am Jim!
Has been in commercial cleaning business for 5 years now, and thinking to step up for next business level, in CCing business. Have always cleaned carpets with my portable extractor, and feel tired of it. Wanna something new such as truck mount system with van or trailer, to make my job easier and profitable. And looking for a good advise
Thanks

I'm Janos, I've been in the cleaning business for 22 years now. I started off as a cleaning assistant in my parents business. A couple years later we specialized to carpet cleaning and I get the business because my parents turned to be old. 1 years ago I left it and started my new business in Ireland.
I enjoy to check the difference of cleaning methods all over the world. I have few websites in Hungary and in Ireland.

You remind me of Dave Aloha and I loved him.( Everyone else, stay calm , please)
Just because we operate with different mindset, doesn't mean that we have to disrespect each other.
I can see that you are fine man and would be real fun to be in your presence( I truly believe it). Regardless of what I just said, I don't believe that your wife is more sexier than mine....

I'm back! I started a very small carpet cleaning business almost ten years ago when I first found this forum. I bought a portable ninja and bought into the rotovac 360 and their chemicals etc. The 360 was awesome but the portable was unbelievably weak. I went with the model that had the electric heater inside of it instead of the dual two stage vacuums. Big mistake. Every job was taking days to dry and although I mostly went after commercial work cleaning apartment buildings, the business soon fell apart due mainly to personal reasons. At the time my mother was fighting a loosing battle to breast cancer which she eventually succumbed too. It put me into one of the worst depressions of my life. Years have gone by since then and now married with two children the fire is beginning to build again. I loved what I did and when I was cleaning I was honestly happy. I was my own boss. No one could tell me what to do. Not to mention I made a decent amount of money. The only problem was that I was in a bad place in life and managing life was hard enough without trying to manage a business on top of it. Some people would call me absolutely crazy to go back but I have made the decision that I want to be my own boss. I am going to be doing things a lot differently this time around and its going to begin with research and tons of it. Thanks to this forum and all your help I intend to build a successful business and your all coming with me! I learned a lot from my mistakes and will be more then willing to share my experiences at failing in the attempt to succeed. Currently I am a dock builder and clammer by trade. It pays well and I plan on continuing my work to pay for the business and marketing while starting up. My line of work clamming allows me to be finished and home by 3 pm with $200 cash every day in my pocket. I plan on spending the rest of my day researching and building the business. I will put together a marketing strategy that is as solid as my business plan long before spending a dime on equipment. However as far as the equipment goes I do plan on going with a van and truck mount this time. Nothing against the portable machines they absolutely have their purpose. However the power of a truck mount is really untouchable and I have to assure that my cleaning will be top notch. I have worked for the big chain carpet cleaning and local companies in the past so I have some experience as a tech. Although I will continue my learning through online classes as well. So good luck to you all and thanks again for taking the time to post your experiences on this forum.

I'm Nate. I work for a global aerospace company. I have a B.S. and pilot's license. I'm new to carpet cleaning. I enjoy doing manual work, and I'm looking to be in control of my days off. I'm also attracted to the idea that the more effort I put in the more money I could make, as opposed to having to play corporate politics and brown nose competitions.

My hobbies include fly fishing, hiking, skiing, surfing, off roading...

Thanks for all of your help!

Well I'm somewhat new to this forum but I love the way that forums help build and renew our energy.
I started a janitorial company 35 years ago and soon after learned to strip, wax and clean carpet due to customers request. I soon figured out that I could clean anything as long as I was motivated by the potential of making a profit. My small company now cleans carpet, ceramic tile, strip and wax Vct and we do stone restoration as well.
Today I completed a carpet cleaning job for a large commercial customer that I have had for 34 of my 35 years in business. I have been Blessed with a nice life style that may not have been possible working for somebody else.
If I were asked by a young person starting out in this business how to be successful in this or any small business my advice would be to always be fair, always tell the truth and be prepared to worked harder and put in more hours than you ever thought possible.
Sorry to sound like your grandfather but with a little luck and a lot of hard work you will be successful!

Pete here. From the UK originally. Went to college for hotel & restaurant management. Spent 20 years in the hospitality industry as a chef, manager. Had a catering biz that got killed in the recession.
Went to work in sales for Ecolab selling chemicals into hospitality industry. Got involved in training the customers and enjoyed the effects of proper chemistry and techniques.
Saw a franchise for the masters touch and got me excited about my own business.
Bought a TM and modified it, and 2 years ago went f/t after being p/t for 3 years.
Looking to scale the business slowly and get to the point where I can have a couple of employees.
Still working on marketing and skill set.
I don't do carpets, only T&G and stone. Got into shower renovation by accident (I kept getting asked about it, so I re-grouted my 3 bathrooms at the house)
I love getting a phone call, doing an estimate, selling the job, doing it and walking away with a nice check!
Not where I want to be yet but the sales trajectory is in the right direction.
Super thankful for the support and encouragement I've found here on TMF.
Married with 5 kids. Elder at my church.
