This tile is on the restroom walls in an upscale doctors office. I perform both there floorcare and janitorial. The owner was curious if I could clean the scale from where people grab the towels and drip down the tile. Also under the hand soap dispenser there are drip marks. Any ideas? I scrubbed it down with a neutral cleaner and it turned even more white. It looks decent in the photos because the stone is still wet.

And while Im on this subject in the same office this sink in the employees area unless wiped daily with a oil based item like furniture polish will turn white. We just took this office over so im looking to fix these issues.

I thought acid and natural stone was a no no.. Is slate an exception from this?
Yes, slate is one of the few stone surfaces that it is ok to use acid on.

it does look like slate in the pic but some ceramic tile can be a good imitation. acid will help with efflorescence but not so much with soap scum if that is what it is. acid will dissolve efflorescence but it needs dwell time which is tough on vertical surfaces.

I was thinking it is slate but wasn't sure. What's a good way to clean it and make it shine? Acid like a lime away or clr type acid?

Yep acid, to make it shine you could clean and use an enhancing sealer.

Also of course they do make a look alike slate tile, but from those pis it looks way to rough.

Yes, slate and it already has a color enhancer applied.

I would normally clean this surface with Spinergy Stone Perfect. Spinergy Resuscitate can remove the efflorescence. A foaming type sprayer will help the product stay on the vertical surface longer and improve the dwell time.

Since it has slight issue with efflorescence, don't allow water to soak in too deeply. Use less moisture with the acid cleaning; dry quickly. You will just get more efflorescence if the grout and stone gets too wet. Slate is bad for efflorescence.
