What are the advantages and disadvantages of closed and open spray tools. I thought open spray tools will over wet the upholstery and spray all over the place compared to closed. If this is the case, why are open tools still being made and sold. I am just trying to understand the concept, this year we are having a lot of upholstery cleaning requests.

Closed can mean the spray is shielded and stays hotter. Sometimes, that is a good thing but once in a while too much heat can be a problem.

Closed can also refer to enclosing the vacuum and the spray tip in the same chamber. Less overspray but depending upon other design factors, much of the solution may be vacuumed away before it flushes the fabric.

Then there are cost factors.

Just like cars. One car may get the best mileage. Why bother making any other kind of car? Because some like different styles. Another person may need to carry 4 kids around and values roominess over mileage while someone else prefers better handling or speed over mileage. Many different features that appeal to different cleaners.
