I always hate having to make threads like this but it seems like once a year or so we need to re-post the TMF rules and terms of service so here it is again.

As of lately we have received a lot of messages from members asking us to clean up TMF. Over the past several months there has been a lot of fighting and other derogatory posts. We don't expect every post to be 100% business related and we encourage the "shop talk" and fun posts we have all come to enjoy. We also as a staff DO NOT want to have to step in and moderate, we really don't, but if needed we will. Below are a couple quotes from members over the last couple days, I have removed their names for privacy's sake.

"I would like to see a workshop / garage atmosphere. Where people can talk shop and bust ba!!s. But yet be respectful to other genders and race.

I was brought up properly. I show respect for my elders (even Aloha), women and people from other origins.
Certain people you know what you can get away with. And others you can't.

We are here to learn and have fun. At least I am."

"I don't think you could ever keep a topic from going off course. It's human nature to be prompted by something someone else said and then inadvertently turn it into ot.

The only way to that is to rule with an iron fist.

I think you just need a simple set of rules.

Don't insult someone.
Be respectful.
Welcome new members.
No vulgar language, racist terms or sexual connotations toward the opposite sex.
Don't post porn.
No trolling.

Then you list what happens when someone breaks the rules.

Troll 3 times and get a day off. Continue trolling and then a week. Do it again and 15 days. 4th time see ya banned.

That way everyone is on equal ground. No guessing what happens if someone does x."

These two quotes above describe the direction we as the TMF staff AND a lot forum members want TMF to go.

I really liked the following portion of the green quote above and in fact we will be using this as TMF Policy:

"I think you just need a simple set of rules.

Don't insult someone.
Be respectful.
Welcome new members.
No vulgar language, racist terms or sexual connotations toward the opposite sex.
Don't post porn.
No trolling.

Then you list what happens when someone breaks the rules."

The list above is perfect.

As a staff we have agreed that if a member or group of members is posting posts that are out of line we will ask once that the behavior stop, at least on the open forum. If you want to continue a fight you are welcome to start a private message with each other and fight away in private all you want.

After asking for the actions to stop if they continue we will deny the offenders access to the particular thread the problem is in. If said offenders start the same actions in another thread then their account will be locked for a 2 day period. In order for us to do this you will have ignored several requests from the staff at this point. We REALLY don't want to have to take this action and will only do so if forced into it by non-compliance.

If after the first instance of having your account closed for two days you come back and start problems again then your account will be closed for a week. 3rd offence for a month, 4th offence will be a permanent banning of your account. I hope it never comes to this for anybody.

Below in red is a copy of the terms of service we all agreed to when we joined TMF

I just copied and pasted the terms of service (in red) straight from the TMF site. Those are the same TOS that have been there from day one of TMF.

I'm not sure what you mean by retroactive.
