Thermal Wave 5M pump switch kills engine.

Hey guys I have been working on a Thermalwave 5M that my company had sit for a few years.

The Good:
The vacuum works really well.
The engine is in great shape
All belts are in good condition
The fuel pump is working

The Bad:
Water box float system damaged
The pump kills the engine after flipping the switch.
- I have water in the water box
- I replaced both high and low-pressure sensors
- Electronic clutch does click and spins when the switch is flipped.
Heat exchanger damaged but I'm more focused on pump atm

I have been trying to rack my brain around what it could be.
At this point, I'm considering pulling the pump out to inspect the valves and see if they are damaged.
Before I do that though I want to consult the geniuses out there.

Thank you for the response. I checked the wire. it is really well insulated from possible shorts.
I disconnected the connection at the pump and reinserted it to test. Same problem unfortunately

Probably not enough flow through the system, triggers safety shut off. Put an open quick disconnect to bleed the air easier. Start the unit then turn on the pump while pressing the red over ride button next to the ignition. When you have good water flow you're good to go.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the response. I tried to bleed the air like you said but still no luck. Also, I tried pressing the main breaker switch but I don't believe I have an override button on my unit.

Following up on my own post for record-keeping.

The issue for me specifically was the valves in my pump. I removed the pump from the truck mount unit and disassembled the pump using the cat pump schematics. My model pump specifically is 3CP1120RS.3.

I have the pump opened up and like I said it has been sitting for a few years. So some rust build-up and damage to the valves is pretty clear.

Does anyone have recommendations on rust removal from brass?

The biggest issue seems like two of the valves on the inlet side were not being activated. The valves were stuck in a closed position somehow within its capsule. So I have the valves removed at the moment and will be replacing them rather than reinstalling the old ones.

Considering my issue and inability to build any pressure. Two inlet valves being shut does make a lot of sense for it.

Hi sir, I was working on same machine. It’s been sitting for years. I can’t get it running. Something kills power on fuel pump after 3 seconds I turn ignition to ON posission. Please lmk what you think . Thanks a lot
