I manage this.

I honestly and genuinely make $100 an hour on my slowest jobs. They are the dirtiest. Furthermore If I can make one job more profitable, then I don't need to waste time looking for another one.

I cleaned a small living room and hallway for somebody. It took 4.5 hours and cost $50. That's $100 an hour.

I take your point, it is completely fair for you to take the approach. But I'll meticulpusly vacuum, pre spray pre scrub and extract my customer's carpets for $00 an hour thanks.

That's just me though.

Grant
Sorry where is says $50 it was meant to say $450. My apologies.

Oh. If you are able to spend 3 hours at a house carefully prevaccing, pre-agitating, edging, etc and make $100 an hour AND stay as busy as my company does --- good for you. Only about 5% of my customers pay for super detailed cleaning (that we charge a lot for) - the rest just want solid TM cleaning for an affordable price.

Yes with a tech we can usually average $100/hr including your so called "super detailing " with residential . Yes sometimes we won't but it does average out. Commercial my Bid we reflect $100 plus per hour.
One and all get the same service be it the Million dollar home or the Section 8 crackhouse.

1. Vacuum cleaner , clipboard and throw rug in hand when greeting client at front door.
2. Well trained tech
3. Have always carried my own fresh water and waste tank.
4. Generator for the ETM

As an anal-ocd cleaner, I struggle with the time versus quality issue, and I'm getting ready to offer a 3 tier pricing model, so I can stop driving myself crazy trying to deliver perfection at budget pricing.
Nothing I hate more than spending 5 hours on a $2-300 job, or 3 hours on a $100-150 job.

If you are anything like me it will never work, all you will end up doing is selling a job at the lowest tier price and doing the top quality job anyway because it will drive you nuts to not do the best that can be done.

That is precisely how I feel about it. From the very first day I woke up as a carpet cleaner and made the choice that - this is what I do now - I have always done my best. I never let the job or work get in the way of doing the best.

It drives me nuts that I sometimes go and clean after some other player who is cheap and has done an accordingly inexpensive job and I find soil that comes out with pre-spray and simple agitation.

I'm a newbie. Why should I be getting out soil others have already agreed to clean?

Never mind. This isn't going anywhere good.

Goodnight.

That I could work with but when the tiers include differences between vacuuming or not, scrubbing or not, prespray or not etc.....things that compromise quality for price I could never do it.

I second or maybe by now its third Todds point. There is a standard I maintain to the service I provide. As Responder as well stated the client doesn't dictate how I run my business. I have walked on many an occasion where I didn't feel comfortable with what I was being asked to do. I realise that attitude may not work for everyone but when was the last time you went to the dentist and he or she agreed to drill out the cavity and save you a buck by not putting in a filling.

That said efficiency on the job site is all about you as an individual operator analyzing what you have to work with and how you use it to save time and energy. From my prospective it starts with rig setup. Keep it clean, it only takes a few seconds to put things away where you can access it when you need it. And that cost nothing. Keep the items you use frequently organized and accessable. Buy or build holders for what you have you won't have to dig for it any more and it will look nicer for your client. QC on any connection, and ball valves are a great investment. Spotting kits keep thing where you need them. Get rid of barbed vac hose couplers, if you can afford it get an electric reel for vac and pressure hose its much faster and MUCH LESS energy which will allow you to work more efficient without fatigue. Fresh water tanks will save you 5-8 minutes per job that's big week over week. If you can purchase a mechanical aggitator 175, crb thier faster and again much less work, aside from the fact they do a better job the any grooming rake. Spotting holsters save a ton of time and cost nothing. I apologize for running on but to some these are old news and ti others perhaps not. Efficiency is a collective effort of saving time as well as energy. It may take 3 extra minutes to bring in that crb but save 10-15 minutes agitating not to mention a lot less sweat.

4.5 hrs for what maybe 400 sqft? Probably less if you say it was small.
Cost$50 ? Is that what you got or what your cost was? Why would a small job cost $50.
You need to clarify my friend. Your math is a bit off
