Sutorbilt Oil Level

A quick question out of the norm here. I bought a well-used truck mount to try to get my business rolling and drained the blower (3MP) oil to replace it in the practice of preventative maintenance. I removed the oil level plug first to see where the oil level was in relation to it and a good amount of oil flowed out, about four times the amount that came out of the drain hole after that(!).

Obviously this blower was dramatically overfilled and realize the best I can expect in response on this forum is speculation. Might the previous owner have overfilled this as a band-aid solution to quiet a failing bearing or otherwise get a little more life from this unit? My natural bent is to fill it to the specified amount but wonder if it might be better above that amount, considering that the blower has been running "acceptably" when overfilled? I note the manual states overfilling can result in overheating and always try to live by the book, but need to keep this blower going a while longer. I know the stock answer is to go by specs, but wondered if anyone had seen such a thing before.

My guess is that the former owner had no idea how much to put in and probably filled it to the top. The proper way to fill it is to remove the oil level plug (lower side plug) and fill the blower until oil comes out then replace the plug.

Shouldn't we put the plug in then add a tiny bit more like 1/2 and ounce?

Thank you gentlemen. With the amount that was present there could have been little air volume in that box. Cameron, I was going to add a little extra since this thing's been running on way more than that, and then pay as close attention as is possible, and pray.
