Each franchise is different in Buffalo they recent ads $119 for 3 areas or sofa/luv

double what the knucklehead independents charge here, so i am a supporter because they provide a decent floor for pricing. I like the franchises locally they all charge good prices, maybe we are just lucky and have strong operators.Dont know

my wife and I were recently in the supermarket (mid December) in our area. We met an old friend that hadn't seen in over 10yrs. For as much as I like to hound for new business, In the mist of chatting, I handed her my two-fold business card that resembles a custom miniature pamphlet complete with my photo. Her eyes opened wide as she said shared that the Steemer has been going to her home for the last 8 yrs every two, three months. She nurses and takes care of terminally ill kids in her home...her own business.

She also shared that the last time they were in there, an old family loom (gold ring with a diamond) suddenly was missing. She does not wear the ring cause her fingers have become a little fatter over the years. She kept it inside a jewelry box in the bedroom.

A new Steemer tech had cleaned her carpets that day. No one else was in her home. Nothing can be done about it since she did not see the goods being taken with her own eyes nor does she have any other proof.

Needless to say, the Steemer indirectly refers a new customer to my data base. Thank you Brother Steemer, I luv you man. Keep up the good work bro.

btw, their prices ain't all that much of a savings as they would have you to believe. Much like Walmarts prices are no savings. It's all in the marketing.

All the background check in the world is not going to guarantee greed free service providers......that's why us small business person can hammer even the biggest companies if you market your mom-pop operation in such a way that will make home owners use you and come back again and again.

Market yourself not only with messages through your business cards, van wraps, fliers, etc., other ways to hammer away is market yourself when talking to a client (respect for their home, go the extra mile, personal appearance, etc) and market yourself through delivering value to the client. You'll be amazed how much marketing the client will do for you on your behalf at no charge just because you delivered fantastic service, they could not resist from telling someone else. And when you get the call from their recommended contact(s), the job is sold before you ever picked up the phone 99.9% of the time.

Sometimes you win some and sometimes you lose some. But nothing feels better then working for someone that has been convinced by someone else that you are the best and can be trusted.

i do apprecitate Stanley Steamer, they run a lager marketing campain, and that helps me out, I charge the same as SS and provide better servise. That's my nitch with customers, Better service. I explain that they are getting the owner in there house doing a quality job, not just a cash and dash. And I asure my customers that they will see me on every job, not a new guy every so many months. SS has a great price lay out, and they do most of the marketing for me. I will honor thier specials and coupons that they mail out. So thanks SS, you make my customers easy to come by.

I am blown away by the added charge for deodorizing. Nearly a 50% upsell to smell good. I could make great money at those prices if everyone payed extra to deodorize.

I'm trying to upsell my fabric protection by offering free deodorizing when fabric protection is purchased. I sell it as a $15.00 value per area. Cost a few pennies extra to add to the FP when applying.

sorry to say i worked for the local ss here, and all i have to say is that the are a joke. training, procedures, hiring (background/ drug test? ROFLMAO!!) with that being said i did learn a couple things and it made me want to start my own business and do things right! so for that i thank you ss. and i also have to add that o do realize i worked for a franchise and i don't judge all stanley's , just this specific one

With a big company many things will slip by. That is why I agree, you can't judge all SS's by a few bad apples.

In my area, they charge $39.00 per area (hall, steps, rooms up to 300 sqft.) and $18.00 each to deodorize, $22.00 each for protector. Their prices for cleaning upholstered furniture are the same as, or slightly under, mine but I think they are a little pricey on the upholstery deodorizer and protector ($21.00 and $29.00 respectively for a love seat).

If I remember correctly, their minimum to travel to my area is $150.00. It’s almost an hour’s drive and I don’t see their vans around much anymore. I have heard one lady say she is very pleased with their service and several more tell me the “3 days to dry” stories.

You are right, Ryan. I have one about 45-60 minutes north and another 45-60 minutes south. I 'm happy to say that the franchise servicing my area is the weaker of the two in quality and competition.

Yes Dale See in Buffalo is one of the good guys in SS!!
I've worked for him. Not the most honest or ethical man in the business. Not the worst either. I could go in to great lengths about their practices with the Corpus Christi franchise and his extra curricular activities which most are well aware of. He's certainly one that thinks he knows it all.

The only drug testing they instituted when I worked there was if you wrecked a van or damaged a customers property. I worked for two large branches and a franchise. Never once have I seen a background check. Not that it matters I've seen good people do stupid things.

There have been plenty of good guys and good carpet cleaners go in and out of Stanley Steemer. No doubt if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be in the business I'm in now.

funny thing is those prices don't include prespray. Atleast in my area the pull in hoses and start sucking. It is a great opportunity for me to set myself apart.
As a matter of fact we were trained to educate customers against pre-spraying. The only pre-spray used is for commercial applications. Remember their policy is built around stroking carpet not the education of what chemical does what and how to apply it. Designed to keep it as simple as possible to minimize error or misapplication.
