I am quite certain that a few months ago I had read where someone had bought one of these and he immediately re-wired the entire machine. The discussion that followed I believed referenced a video - perhaps instructional on this sort of thing. I have a good altimeter and I am looking to try to fix this on my own to save money. It isn’t working at all - as in will not even turn on. Of course I could pay to have it done, but I have nothing to lose as it is out of warranty. If there are any resources out there that may be helpful I appreciate it.

I am learning the hard way how important it is to learn how to fix your own equipment - at least at some level. Because it is not a matter of if, but when it will happen. I own two portables and both are out of commission and I must try to repair them myself otherwise I fear I will spend enough money to just buy another new one.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Portables are Nautilus MXE 500 & US Products PEX 500

Do the manufacturers have service manuals available for these?

Stupid questions, maybe...but I figure after asking I will know more of where to turn than I do now.

If you have a meter your in good shape. Confirm power from where it enters the machine from each cord and go from there. Check voltage as you progress to the components and note the volts as you go (you can also check impedance). This will help you find bad connections or wires.
