I'm a little frustrated at the news that a good friend has permanent respiratory issues resulting from just a couple years of improper use of a chemical and so I just wanted to emphasize the importance of mixing your chemical properly.

A company we both worked for used a product by Buckey called Terminator. If you have experience with it then you know its a pretty strong disinfectant and personally, I think its overkill for daily cleaning. The company owner trained people to use the product at 50/50 dilution or stronger (this was a chemical that specified 1oz per gal. for sanitization and anti fungicidal cleaning) and then sprayed it from a quart spray bottle in the restrooms we cleaned. It was common to see employees exiting the restrooms red in the face from coughing. One guy even threw up he was coughing so hard. Employees experienced burning in the lungs, throat, nose and eyes as well as severe nose bleeds and dizziness. After about 2 weeks I flat refused to use the product at all (it was very strong even when mixed at close to proper ratios) and began bringing in chemicals I purchased myself and advised my coworkers to at least dilute the product more. A few listened but most didn't because it was what the boss told them to do. My friend was one of them and now, three years after leaving that company, he has respiratory issues that limit the things he can do.

I've encountered over the years lots of people that feel like more is better and will use chemicals in this way. And while I think most of us here are smart enough to know better, we must remember that many of the chemicals we use are toxic. Disinfectants are poisons and should be handled with care. Proper ppe always. If you experience any kind of discomfort while using a product stop using it. Keep in mind too that you aren't the only one who's health is at risk. Your customers health could be in jeopardy too.

Be smart, be safe.
