Hello and thank you for reading this. I am searching for any info on how to get my business up and going with steady income. I’m currently employed and have started my business in hopes of one day solely running my business.

My starting kit that I have for now is

Bissell Big Green Machine
Bissell Vacuum.

Any tips, advice, encouragement, hard truth, or anything that is aimed at helping will be MUCH appreciated!!!

Hi Blake, I'm also fully employed and have just begun to start our cleaning business full time. I think one of the best things you can do is to buy your equipment now and get it paid off. You're going to want something bigger and better than a Bissel. Look into getting a van and a truckmount along with all the tools. The last thing you will want when you launch your business fulltime is some costly overhead.

Blake;

If your wish and desire is to compete in this industry, then in order to do so, you will require some competitive results producing equipment. Bissel has its place in the consumer market. However, it is far bottom line for this industry and you will end up burning out if not, thrown out.

Like yourself, I also started out but realized what was required thus, I am speaking from experience, and a very successful one too.

Best of luck regardless your direction!

If you join a mechanics forum, stating you have bought a cheap socket set and you’re going to become a mechanic

Or a car detailers forum with a bucket and sponge, saying you’re now a starting a detailing biz

Or a window cleaning forum with a squeege...

Similarly walk into biker bar with a little 250cc saying now you want to be a biker...

In any of these places you won’t get far

You won’t get far here either....

MANY people like you start up carpet cleaning

They charge cheap rates and do a poor job AND they don’t last long

That stings us professionals in multiple directions. Now you come for a drink at our bar and want our advice...

Go get qualified
Invest in professional - twin vacuum/500psi portable machine and van
Become a professional carpet cleaner

Other wise carry on with your biz plan as is, come back in a year and prove us all wrong

We would love to see it!!!

Off you go now, bye

Sorry man with a Bissel you are not getting any where, you can get away doing it part time like 2 days a week but not full time. Get yourself a powerful system.

I was in your place a few years ago, and just started doing business. My advice to you is to study the market for your future products. I am selling the best kitchen appliances and I am sure you can achieve success in your business, good luck in your endeavors.

If you look back a feller here gave me advice to start helping guys with marketing...

I know the biz so still do that but I can help all you want. I'm $150/hour for consulting, **and literally worth every penny.**

Since this isn't my forum though, I'll have to ask the boss around here where I can send his cut.

Don't pay the guy above or anyone $150 an hour for consult. I'll consult you for free if needed.

You are starting out the hardest way possible With deficient equipment that will not give you the results clients are looking for, nor will you appear professional to them.
The easiest part for of this business is cleaning. The hardest part is getting the work. If you can't keep the few customers you service you'll never make it.
First impressions are everything!
I too started out with a portable but it was a professional portable not a Bissell. Even so, I had to work harder and longer then I do now with a well set up truck mount.
I also had clients that wanted a Truck Mounted machine. When they said that I told them I have a TM. I then operated my portable from my van. :)
I'd suggest you get rid of your Bissell, and if you either get a used truck mounted machine, or a good portable but you need to run a rotary with it like the Mytee T Rex. Here's a link to the one I'd suggest you get. I have 2. https://www.mytee.com/products/t-rex-jr-total-rotary-extractor/#.Vw7Ri5MrJEJ

If you go the portable route then I'd get either the Mytee 7303 LX Air Hog Vacuum Booster which I now sue on jobs I can't use my TM on. https://www.mytee.com/products/7303lx-vacuum-booster/

I'd pair the Mytee LX with a Mytee Water Hog. https://www.mytee.com/products/7304-water-hog/
You can clean carpet with it or even tile and grout as it goes up to 1,200 psi which you need for T&G.

The above is my portable setup I use presently.

@Ed Valentine who owns Cross American https://crossamericancorp.com makes the Jaguar portable unit that has a lot good qualities. I don't own one but I've used my friends Jaguar, and it will get the job done too.

Whatever portable you get, you need a Mytee T Rex to go with it. JMO

But ultimately I'm a truck mount guy.

If you have any questions you can ask them here or PM me. I'm not an a seller of equipment, pre-sprays, classes, or guru of consultations and the fees that go along with it. I'm just another carpet cleaner who started out with an old pickup truck and a portable.

One question, what country, city, and/or state do you live and work in.

Also, I think that in the future you might need a good communication system with your team. In order to get that part to be perfect, you can try to collaborate with this IT consulting company https://www.generationix.com/. I can assure you, for a reasonable price they will do more than needed. When you'll have that part you will be able to not worry about it at all, and that means that you will be able to stay and think about your business. I would never underestimate that. I wish you a very good collaboration and by the way, maybe I will also need your abilities as a cleaning master. But never forget about the advises above also!
