Rich;

Sorry to hear this because those particular MX motors have been very very reliable.
Not having much information here, I could rule out water dripping on exposed electrical components within the base because they are protected. Other than a electrical spike on location(rare but happens) it could be water/foam/etc being sucked into the motor and working its way into the interior motor. "Shorting out" normally always indicates water coming in contact with electrical, thus that would be my "pre-conclusion".

If we saw the motor, or Ametek , I am sure we could come a same conclusion.

Not seeing where you are from, Is this system a 120, or 240v?

Jaguar carpet cleaning machines have too much power and it all ends up damaging the pump. There are few distributors in dublin making a pile of cash fre re-building pumps. A new pump is 1500 euro

I love Jaguar carpet cleaning machines but i think it is too much hassle fixing it

Every problem ive had with portables always lead back to the switch. Switches are bit ches is what always said. The contacts wear out and will arc tripping breakers or cut out completely. Simple electrical tester will help narrow it down.
