So here's the long and the short of a guys I have a lot of leftover parts from truck mounts over the years
I'm going to be fabric cobbling one together I have a good working number 56 blower
And a great cat 3 pump with electric clutch that also works
I also have a couple of nasty old heat exchangers laying around
I'm just throwing this out for suggestions on what you would do as far as a power plant
I want to do this on the cheap
this machine would be my backups backup to my backup
Yes I will make it pretty but I want to spend as little as possible
Have a Rockin day guys

With a 56 blower I would be looking for an engine with around 50 horsepower. Go water cooled, maybe a kubota engine or one of the 4 cylinder engines like prochem and sapphire use.

Or if you are fabricating the frame anyway you could use any small car engine.

Yes I will be fabricating a frame
For Simplicity sake I'm hoping to avoid water cooling

I don’t think it’s worth your time and money. You can’t use junk to build a truckmount.
Over the years we've collected several truck mounts they have blown Motors a broken blower or thrown out due to rot there is a lot of very good parts in these machines

Junk is more of a slang term I will only use good used parts for example that blower was only ran for about 6 months before it got retired it looks rough because it's at outside a long time the cat 3 pump we installed it on the truckmount and the Machine had the tank crushed in in an accident

So it's more using salvage parts

Also I am an ASE Certified mechanic and diagnostician and a highly skilled fabricator I love welding and playing around with this stuff

I would go with a 40 hp kholer...cheaper
And would run the 56 blower
As the 56 is not much stronger than a 47
About 50 more cfm????
I know but I have to choose between the 56 a b2 or a 33
I personally never liked the 33

And 2b to just sucks more like doesn't suck

Yeah 40 horse Kohler would be a great option

Believe me if it was a 47 I be using a 47 by far they're my favorite it's the best balance
I mean shoot I hope one of my competitors put a 22 horse Prowler from Harbor Freight and it worked just fine
I don't know if the Harbor Freight motor would work with a 56 I'm tempted to try it but it's two questionable

22hp predator wont work....dont know how your friend did it......

I coudnt get a 30hp kholer to power a 47........

either way it will be under powered

get the 40hp kholer....
then if the 56 blower fails you can go with a 47

this is my experience with HP and blowers......torque plays a part also with diferent brands
\
i have built all 3 of these:
36 blower - 20-25hp
45 blower - 27 - 30 hp
47 blower - 33-38hp
56 blower - 40hp++++but I havent used a 56 so this is projection

best to get a larger engine so it wont bog down......

I know the industry has smaller engines...but they are trying to save 100$...?????

subtract 1-2hp for cat pump is all....

I love it too. I took this hunk of junk and completely re-designed it and made it into a good machine.

600 cc bikes are 100 - 120 HP in a small package
No I was just kidding I I dislike Harleys
I have a Honda 550 Super Sport. but I'm not going to cut it up. I do like your line of thinking

Swap that big blower for a 45 or 47 and some $$ and run the predator 22 hp.

I'm tempted to try the predator with the 56

The 56 blower is only made to spin at 2800 RPMs Max which means whatever motor I use will have to be pulley down to decrease the RPMs going to the blower. Intern making the motor work less hard
The truckmount this came out of at a 4-cylinder Ford which had 41 horsepower it had absolutely stupid ridiculous power could only run at about half throttle if you turned it up past half the unloader was running the entire time

Also I'm not looking to duplicate that nightmare it was constant work

And keep in mind this is going to be my backups backup it's more something I'm playing around with that I'm I'm making a living with

Jim I really appreciate your comment have a great one

Where's the picture of junk you see? I see 1 picture of a blower with the gear end cover removed, I've heard that blowers last many years with minimal performance loss, I have been cleaning with truckmounts for over 20 years and never had a problem with any blower. Some people are mechanically inclined and some are not. If he has all the part laying around why not put them to use?

With your knowledge and ability to fabricate the machine, i'm sure it'll be a beast. As for the engine...from the 4 different truckmounts I've owned, and the lawnmowers I've used...I'll never use an air cooled twin cylinder engine again in any of my future truckmounts. They're loud, they rattle, and they're just loud. They sound like crap. The throttle response, and immediate power and smooth sound of an inline 3 or 4 cylinder engine to power our machines is the way to go.

Have you thought about buying a junk PTO van with a smaller blower and weak HE, and using your parts to do a major upgrade? With your welding skills, I bet you could turn an old HM setup into a nice, constant heat, long hose run beast
