I know some may not want to but those who dont mind, whats your best roi to date?

Our list

1. Angie's List
2. Yelp
3. Word of mouth

would love to hear from those possibly having success with

Home advisor
Google ad words
SEO (organic search results)
EDDM
real estate newsletters etc
any other type of mailings

Some avenues work better in some markets than others I understand. Mostly want to hear from those charging higher end pricing not so much the $99 whole house guys (no offense)
Sincerity towards all, not only the customers, laid back attitude, willingness to give free advice and I have to admit we have effortless sailing because of some great word of mouth is happening for many years. ( minimum -reg.service area ( 20 miles)$129, around service area( 30 miles) $ 179, out of area (40 + miles) $ 300. Obviously, it didn't happen overnight.
We don't do residential estimates ( unless $600+ is on the horizon), but sometimes I'm requested anyway and customer is happy to pay 1 bill just for a visit. Never, ever did I take tip for re service visit, or for fixing minor stuff, like hinge on the door, replacing bulb, etc. You have to learn how to say no to a money you really didn't earn or gotten by customer's miscalculation. These are things everyone values, taking pride in what you do, honesty, integrity, call it whatever you want, it can't be learned, it has to be within you. This was and still is my best advertising and marketing tool .

None Of The Above.

When I started out on my own I knew exactly what I was going to do and how I was going to go about it. First, understand that I had little interest in just carpet cleaning. Don't get me wrong, I did it and liked it. But the kind of money that I wanted to make just wasn't there. I wanted the BIG BUCKS......Insurance claim work. Where there is No Such Thing as "How Much Do You Charge"?

I knew that most everyone who entered into this part of our field all did the same, stupid thing. They went to insurance companies and handed out there little business card, crossed their fingers and hoped they'd get a phone call. Pfffffft. To me that was just wasting valuable time. Instead what I did was market my skills to other restoration companies. I let THEM do all the time consuming foot work and costly marketing. Long story short, my strategy worked and the rest is history.

Hey so just trying to make sure I know what your talking about. Once you marketed your skills to these restoration companies. They would go out bid jobs/ capture the work and and sub the it out to you right?

Correct! The restoration companies that I solicited were already established companies who were well known to the insurance agents and adjusters in my area. All I did was see what they were in desperate need of, like for example.....

*Carpet installer - For re-installations of water damaged carpets.

* Fabric and Textile expert - To clean all of the high end fabrics, investment textiles, tapestry, fabric wall covering, draperies, etc that everyone else ran away from, or said "They Can't Be Cleaned". Pffffft. EVERYTHING can be cleaned. You just need to know HOW to clean them.

Just those two areas of expertise kept my business going for years and years and years. Once summer came and water damage and puffback season was over, it was regular ole carpet & upholstery cleaning time. Nowhere near as much money as insurance claim work, but it paid the bills.

Also know that in time, you will be able to weed out the good companies from the bad ones. I fired the crappy restoration companies. If a company tried to make me look bad because of THEIR stupid mistakes.....I Fired Them! And I had to do that on more than one occasion.

The best advice that I can give anyone is don't be afraid to fire someone. Whether they be dead weight, or a crappy company.
DUMP THEM! Because if you don't.......They'll ruin you.

Angies list is great for us in the past but from a source Home Advisor just bought Angies list and reguardless what others say Home Advisor is great they hate refunding credits and unlike others you agree to pay they leads before they come in by setting a monthly budget on how much work they send you but your not the only one getting that costumers info but calling with in 3 min of it coming in is the secret as well as following up if no answer, send them emails with coupons and they will most likly call back not all the time but our company acquired 200 new clients last year from them most of the time its around 20 a lead but per 150 we spend our return is close to 1000 and yes I offer 3 rooms for 99 but the city im in has the lowest cost of living in the country. Also Thumbtack is very great as well with much better costumer service but not as much work comes from them. I also find success in emailing coupons and mailing post cards works for commercial work better for me ! The most important thing over all is getting every clients email address and use it to your advanage if you did their carpet then send a furniture coupon or air vent cleaning ext. And get a punch card for loyal coustumers after 5 services on sepperete occasions they get a free service up to $75. Also get some spotter with your logo on it and attach a business card magnet to it and give it to them and it will help I promise

100% web driven results. I have actually dropped home advisor, thumbtack, and yellow pages. It took us about 6 months to achieve solid search engine results...but the team we use has been extremely helpful and thoughtful on their process. We are in a community of about 75K people. We are #1 in the Maps, and #1 in organic results for just about every carpet cleaning and furniture cleaning keyword you can think of. We get about 100-150 calls each month that is tracked through out site. The rest we get from either referrals, repeat business, or from time to time a call from our facebook page. Our digital marketing guy has us literally taking up most of page 1 on google with our maps listing, website organically ranked #1 and then YouTube videos (which by the way Google owns) also taking up page 1 results. They are short 1 minute videos that we create and include our name address and phone number, as well as a link to our website. He created these AWESOME intros to all of our videos (here is a sample - Inexpensive Professional - YouTube Video Intro). At a minimum hit him up to create you 5 AWESOME YouTube Video intros that you can use. He only charges like $80, and you get 5 professional intros. It is a pretty slick deal. I have posted my guys website on the forum before and I know others on here have used him recently as well. I am sharing this with you all BECAUSE it WORKS.... Stop wasting your money on old school advertising. Get your digital game going and stick with it! Your competitors are and you may think it costs them a fortune...but it DOES NOT!. You can contact my guy directly...he knows I promote him (his name is Bill, [email protected]). I know he can help you. I hope this helps!

We almost exclusively use the internet. One of our top referring sites of course is Yelp. Believe it or not Pinterest send regular traffic to our site also. Facebook is up and coming and I believe it would be a great site to focus on for the future. Our website with SEO and Google places / Maps. We have sporadically ran AdWords ads but it isn't the best method of driving traffic and if you don't know what you are doing then it can get really expensive.

So it would be:

Yelp
Website / SEO
Word of Mouth
Maps
Social Sites

It seams like Facebook advertising works for getting leads, but in my experience those leads aren't very serious. At least if you ask them to print a voucher or send you an email. They rarely respond. Google ads works for me. Trying to find an additional source of marketing that works as well though. So far nothing works as does google. (2 years of honing google ads though, and finally got it working well)

What, exactly, did you have to do to hone your ads?

We do a little on Home adviser, but not a ton, and a little on Yelp. We struck out on facebook ads, but all of the above keeps us more than busy.
