Some in our local carpet cleaning industry are being required to have Liquid Waste water Haul Permits. Requirements include pumpout, spill kit etc.

1. Is there a work around?
2. Is it possible to run a truckmount without a waste tank?
What areas are requiring this? Back in the 80's a few of our leaders in Washington wanted to classify our waste water as hazardous but thanks to SS for being the deep pockets, fought it and won.
I've heard of some cities requiring how you dump (no run off to street or storm drains). I saw SS the other day with their auto pump out hose running back into the house I can only assume it was leading to a toilet or sink. What a hassle.

Big brother is always watching.

Salt Lake City, Utah requires a liquid waste haul permit, spill kit, autopump out and MSDS on all chemicals on truck in labeled containers.

Apparently you have to pass an inspection of your vehicle and demonstrate how you handle waste water and spills. Approved pump out to cleanout, sink, toilet, tub. Not grass, flower bed and zero water in storm drain system (obviously). You can't clean out your filters on the lawn or driveway because when rain comes it washes the contaminates to the storm drains.

All gray water must be filtered before pumping to allowed places above. If there is any leaks or drops coming from your van, you are in violation and the fines are extreme.

Cost to setup van and spill kit, yearly permit, placards on van, $1m commercial liquid waste hauler insurance, $1m coverage on commercial insurance for vehicle.

Encapsulation starting to look appealing tbh.

Wonder how you're supposed to wash your car? You could check to see how SS in your area is complying. Any of the national franchises should be helpful.

Send it down the homeowners vent/cleanout or down the toilet. You dont generate near enough with carpet cleaning for this type of permit. Your not sucking septic systems out. Or moving a thousand gallons over the road. And I doubt you have 1 ton of consentrated cleaning chems on your truck at any one time. Just use a pump out right into their shitter or if available the sewer vent/clean out in the yard. Obviously making sure that it is the vent for sewage and not french drains. By dumping it in the sewer on site this means you are not hauling over the roads. If they want msds on the truck? Just print it out and hang it next to the shelf.

Spend some money and save some hassle. $1400 for the hydro force filter box with pump out. Bring it in the house and drop it next to a toilet or sink with a 6 foot hose to dump the waste water. Technically you could delete the waste tank with it but not recommended because then there's no barrier between the blower and any foam or water drops that make it past the box. Hefty price tag for what it is but if it saves 20 minutes of setup/breakdown every job it'll pay for itself soon enough.
