I would like to know if my 38hp Kohler oil cooled engine is running at normal oil temperature. I installed a temperature sensor at the oil drain plug and am getting a temperature reading of 240 degrees Fahrenheit at 3500 rpm.Does anyone know if this engine is running too hot or is this normal.

Maybe I need to switch from full synthetic to kohler brand
I change mine every month, sometimes twice a month

If you have burned synthetic oil for a long time, don't change to dino. Burn a synthetic equivalent. Always best to pick an oil type and never change IMO.

240* is good like others have probably said. 290 above i would be concerned. It's actually good to keep the temp readings low on the block because that's we're the oil burns. But reading temps high near the filter isn't bad either.
