Hi,

I haven't posted on here in awhile as we are extremely busy. It has now been over a year since we added Carpet Cleaning to our business last April and joined TMF. I wanted to let you know that I have a new found respect for all you carpet cleaners that do this full time, ESPECIALLY THE PORTY USERS. The ones that do it right. I see now exactly whats involved to do the job right. When we first added this service to our already busy schedule, I thought lets get a Carpet Cleaning Machine since we were always turning jobs down. It will be easy money right ,WRONG. Now that We have over a year in and lots of jobs under our belt with no call backs, I can Honestly say I give you guys mad PROPS. This is very physical, expensive, hard, non stop work, but does pay very well. We only average about 4 Carpet Cleanings a month but thankfully thats it. I would not want to do this Full time. I'll stick to Vacuuming and Dusting. LOL

So to all you companies out there that do this right and don't rip people off , Rock On.

Its a great business to be in! There are times I clean all day and feel like my arms are falling off. Worth the hard work for sure! I just wish I started doing this when I was 20 or ease 30 years off and know what I know now...

b18,I have been cleaning carpets for 21 years with porty and buffer. I suffer with shoulder burn, back pain and have 5 herniated discs. Partly due to sports injuries when I was younger, partly due to carpet cleaning and partly due to being 47 years old lolI love my job though. In fact I'm looking forward to building a website and upgrading to a new portable system. There's no other job I rather be doing. I feel like a kid again.Frank

Once you start doing a lot of jobs, the luxury items seen to be worth their weight in gold, rotary tools, auto fill/dump, and porty that can do long hose runs, just to name a few.

Those sort of things are what makes this type of work doable day in and day out.

4 a month means you arent use to it yet. After doing 4 day you kinda get use to it .... then you can do most with out any issues.

O I'm used to doing it and there is no way you could do more than 2 jobs a day as good as I do them. it's just physically impossible. Not trying to start arguing but there is not enough time in a day with the equipment I use and the technique. Unless you half ass it which I don't and Every customer always comments on how good we do and spend extra time to do it right and rinse well. Most of them said the other companies wouldn't pre spray or rake it in and let it dwell.

psssh I have been a one person cleaner for two counties for yeeeaaars. A normal "not during a depression" day starts out at 4:30 a.m. and usually ends 10 p.m. some days cleaning over 12K sf of carpet. all using a porty or tm.. the best thing to stop fatigue to do 8 to 10 jobs a day is a good old fashioned RX20. and good presprays..lol

So the newbies starting out.. dont buy a darn car with your profits. get an rx20 first and foremost the best investment. I am not too fond of the 360's they dont have the scrubbing weight..

First off I'm not a "Newb" and I bought my car way back in 2002 and all the profits we make from Cleaning after I pay my bills goes towards retirement. i'm only 30 years old and my wife 28 and we already have over $115,000+ saved up and only 11 years left on our mortgage all while raising a child with hardly any family help. Not too shabby ehh.

Also how can you say without lying to yourself that you normally work 17.5 hrs a day with 8-10 jobs. When do you sleep.Your are FOS. Lets say you did it one day I'm sure the next day you wouldn't wake up that early again let alone clean that much over and over, day after day. No doubt you would fall over dead or seriously be injured. While I'm young enjoying retirement you'll be visiting the doctor living your life on pain meds.

I was only trying to give props to some on here because I realize how hard of work this is. Don't get me wrong I like it when I'm cleaning carpets but I'm not trying to ruin my body doing it either, which would definitley happen cleaning that much carpets everyday. My health isn't worth some paper. I want to enjoy my future with my family.

I think he was just saying .."some days". Also I think he meant to say "To the newbies," not "so the newbies [you]..."

I didnt say you were a newbie.. lol and I dont have ESPN to know you bought a car back in 02.
I was just saying get the rx20 to save the back. alot of guys once they get a few grand in their pockets first thing they do is buy a cool car.. we all did at some point in time..
But yes your family is the most important thing you have.. no doubt.

and what I was saying also was I can work 16 to 18 hours per day 6 days a week. but most jobs only take an average or 1 hr 45 minutes in the door and out the door. but yes carpet cleaning is hard work and thanks for the props man.. you too I could not do what you do either.

The auto fill and dump would be sweet to have and would probably cut my time in half but the Mytee 1003DX we use doesn't have it.

Both are something that you can add to your Speedster, I did. I'd never go back to the bucket brigade. When you do a room here or there, it's not a big deal if you don't have the auto features. However, when you do a large area or whole house, you can just plug in and go! I can clean a 8-10 room home, nasty too, in about 3 hours. And that time include set up and tear down.

The extra features are sure nice to have. Certainly they involve a bit more setup, I would say about 30-45mins per job over a TM setup. When you have a porty that can run out to 100' that gives you the power to leave the machine in a stationary location & run your hoses from that location without having to reset and rehook. For porty users this is a net positive.

Where do you guys get the water from when you leave your porties in your trucks? I can't see running a solution hose from the kitchen faucet to the porty in the van and pumped back to the house through another solution hose into the wand.

I have a 50' fresh water hose that I hook up to the machine, but yes I'll go from somewhere inside the house to the truck. If I need anything longer than that, I usually just take the machine into the garage or something, if I need longer than 50' of fresh water line, then I'm probably going to be running vac hose longer than I want too.

One thing that I'd like to have next is a 100 gal water well on the truck. With a 12 volt transfer pump, that would be nice.
