got an email today which I will copy and paste. there is nothing on my website that is copied. And I am not going to click on a link from an unknown email. Advice?

The below information was sent from this page of your website:

Title: "Send Us a Message"

Your Name:
[email protected]

Your Email Address:
[email protected]

Your Phone Number:

Your Message:
Hi!

My name is Shanna.

Your website or a website that your organization hosts is violating the copyright protected images owned by myself.

Take a look at this doc with the URLs to my images you used at www.paulscleancare.com and my previous publication to get the proof of my copyrights.

Download it right now and check this out for yourself:

https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/files-aaf52.appspot.com/o/shared%2Ffile-dvdff29.html?alt=media&token=67df0058-36ba-436d-9d3e-31eedfa9cdb2&d=436979627077060410

I really believe you have deliberately violated my legal rights under 17 U.S.C. Section 101 et seq. and could possibly be liable for statutory damage as high as $150,000 as set forth in Section 504(c)(2) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (”DMCA”) therein.

This letter is official notice. I seek the elimination of the infringing materials described above. Take note as a service provider, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act demands you, to eliminate or/and terminate access to the infringing content upon receipt of this letter. In case you do not stop the use of the above mentioned infringing materials a law suit will be commenced against you.

I do have a good self-belief that use of the copyrighted materials mentioned above as presumably violating is not approved by the copyright owner, its legal agent, or the law.

I declare, under consequence of perjury, that the information in this message is correct and that I am currently the legal copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive and legal right that is allegedly infringed.

Best regards,
Shanna King

I defintely wouldn't respond to that. That so called file of "stolen images" could be a Trojan Horse or have an embedded "key logger" that can get into your financial information and ALL YOUR PASSWORDS so that tomorrow morning you may find your bank account has nothing left in it and all your credit cards run up to the limit. This can be done virtually ANYWHERE on earth with a computer savvy person, aka, hacker. I believe that is exactly what this person, who may be smoking dope in his basement, is likely trying to do to you. This is not at all a credible threat. I'd bet my reputation, if I have one, it is probably not even a female. This e-mail is directly pointed at creating a fear response, you know, like "asymptomatic transmission." I do not believe ANY REAL attorney or legal entity would even attempt this. She, or he, supposedly has your number. Let's just see if they actually call and let you VERIFY they are who they say they are. I predict that won't happen.

Btw, if you did download that file I suggest doing a security scan on your device RIGHT NOW!!! This is NOT a joke or an exaggeration.

all they would get is an answering machine so that wont go very far.
I sure hope you did not download that file. That is a "Phishing" e-mail I strongly suspect. The way a key logger works is that when you type in your password for say your BANK ACCOUNT it logs every stroke of the keyboard and can send it quickly to the person who put it on your computer. It takes about a hot second to do it.

I am not a lawyer and don't know law, but I do know I get amusing threats like this all the time. Even from the "FBI", using gmail or yahoo as any reputable government agency would. I would definitely not sweat it as long as your site is on the up-and-up and the sender isn't linking a legit business site. If they aren't a professional photographer or hosting for a pro then there's no way they get anything out of a lawsuit.
Of course, if you have a lawyer they'd be able to tell you exactly how not-serious this actually is.
