Low heat,
low psi (200 or less)

slow and take your time.

dry stroke like crazy

a CRB can be used on wool unless its damage (if fragile maybe you shouldnt touch it)

Testing for crocking and bleeding, identify the entire rugs construction and remove all fear about cleaning. Natural fibers are tougher than most cleaners are willing to give credit to, but there is a reason hotel lobby's are wool and the rest of the joint is synthetic...

Okay let's get ready to get yelled at by everyone that hasn't been trained how to do this

First of all you most certainly can and you will not harm the rug!!!!

Must run a dye test to make sure it's not a bleeder

If it is you wouldn't want to submerge wash it anyways without a die setting product!!!
If you don't know what that is stopped here!!!!

Step one dust the rug for a thoroughly if you don't have the means to dust the rug vacuum in a cross-hatched pattern on both sides multiple times

Next you want to apply a very gentle neutral pH pre spray give it lots of all time!!!
(You already checked and made sure it doesn't bleed)

Agitated gently that's desired or the rug has been tested to be sturdy enough I recommend a crb for this. However a 175 with a white pad or a bonnet will work fine
(Stay away from The Fringe if it's a twisted strand rug don't agitate use an IQ )

Set your truck at its minimum temperature so that means if it can't be set below a 150 degrees Fahrenheit even that is too hot!!!
Shoot for around comfortable feeling to your hand 98.6

Your pressure setting should be low but with high-flow get the biggest Jets you can for your wand I'm not joking you seriously need to get the biggest Jets you think are reasonable so like number 11006/11008

lots and lots and lots of dry passes when you think you've done enough do it ten more times if you have a water claw at your disposal use that

Must Force dry or Browning can occur I recommend hanging the rug with several fans on it keep a high-quality acid rinse with a pH around 6 in case some Browning happens because you didn't listen and do enough cry passes are dry it quickly enough

make sure no smells can transfer to the rug so if you like smoking don't smoke if you near live near a slaughterhouse (question your life choices) clean the rug at a place that is safe I know this sounds nuts but I have had a rug transfer smell from being in traffic too long it smells like pine air freshener lol. The customer didn't care but it drove me nuts

Now as far as charging I'm not going there!! nothing gets you beat up worse on this form then saying how much he charge for rugs lol

I only do this with rugs I cannot fit into the wash pit. but it works fine and will not hurt the rug if it's done properly. Be smart and patient

I charge between 2 bucks a square in five bucks a square

I hope this helps have an excellent day!!!!

When you say wool, that’s just the fiber type. Before you know how to wash it, it would be helpful to know the type.
Hand Loomed
Machine Made
Tuffed
Kilim
Flat Weave
ECT.....

Ignorance? Lol
I know there's a lot of criticism about classroom level training. but it helps someone understand there's many ways of taking care of a situation

We have a rug that was located in a sushi restaurant beautiful sculpted wool
Hand-loomed it is a wall hanging that they have in the center they're building a customer spilled red wine on it it would simply you impossible to clean and my 20 by 20 wash pit. But through training and understanding I'm able to tackle the job
It turned out excellent the customer was thrilled and I got a tip in food lol(that I couldn't afford on most carpet cleaner salaries) lol

Many people don’t like training cause they already feel they know it all!
Humility is needed to listen.
But rubbing elbows with those more educated in specific subjects is really valuable. One of my teachers called me today with some suggestions. It doesn’t help him, it helps me.
I think the biggest bonus I’ve had is networking with specialists so quickly.

I love cleaning wool as well, it's really easy, I use flex ice as a pre spray and agitate with my sebo gently if needed. However I always do a bleeding test, once I came to wool that was bleeding with flex ice, I then I would only use water to clean but even with water I can see the colors were transferring over to my sheet, it had lots of colors, I panicked and I told the customer that I won't clean it because the colors were bleeding.

If the colors are crocking one must stabilize and set the colors then proceed with caution. If the cleaning goes well we always stabilize again which also adjusts the ph. Then we force dry and about half way dry apply the protection.

Most quality loomed wool carpets can be agitated with a crb or 175.
I always use stabilizer. I know it’s not always needed, but I always use it.
I only use Wool Safe Products on Wool (or known safe) Many of the rugs I clean are high end, however most aren’t investment grade.
Saying “Wool” Rug really doesn’t give even remotely enough info IMHO to know how to clean it. More info is always needed.
Sometimes I find Tufted Rugs to be the worst due to the low quality backing. The laytex often is so filled with fillers.
My favorites are thick wool, but man as a one man show it’s hard to get large wool done. But I don’t clean a thick wool, the same as a kilim or flat weave.
If things keep going as they are I’m investing in some serious wash pit equipment but not there yet. Maybe some day... that would be awesome

I agree. why would you not agitate it?

I cant remember the name of the person who does rug cleaning "without ever touching the rug pile" he claims agitation ruins the nap, so he created a "special machine". the machine looks cool
but he is not washing or cleaning, Id call his method rinsing the rug.

If you are calling ME ignorant because of no agitation, I will state that if you need agitation for cleaning a wool rug you haven't a clue what your doing! Why would you introduce any wear (and yes your agitation causes wear) to any valuable rug. If one uses agitation by means of a rotary it voids warranty of nylon carpets. Certain models of Dyson vacuums also voided carpet warranties because they were too aggressive. NO AGITATION IS NEEDED FOR CLEANING WOOL RUGS!
