How to clean smelly microwave oven

Hi all,

So first I had a problem with a burnt smell coming out of the microwave oven, probably due to some leftovers of food. After I cleaned it with vinegar, it helped very little, plus the oven started smelling of vinegar. Then I used a cleaning foam (GreatValue HeavyDuty Oven Cleaner, if this matters) and the burnt smell was hopefully gone, but now I cannot get rid of the smell of the chemical itself. I wiped it inside a few times with a wet towel as recommended, but that didn't really help. The most worrying thing is that according to the instructions the foam can be poisonous. Even though I feel okay after eating food microwaved in it, I'd still be grateful if I could remove the foam smell (and its source) altogether.

Any suggestions?

Fill a large shallow container (baking dish) with a couple of inches of water and microwave for as long as it takes to boil. The steam will flow through the inside vents. Then leave the door open overnight.

You say you cleaned it with vinegar? Here's what I do. Fill a cereal bowl a little past half full with half and half vinegar and put it in the microwave. Run it for one or two minutes depending on the crud build up. Open and crud should be loosened enough to simply wipe away. No smell this way.

Other thing to try would be take a couple of lemons and cut them in half. Put them in a bowl half filled with water and nuke for 10 minutes or so. Open microwave door and let air out over night. Works with oranges as well.

The best way to get rid of the chemical smell is to put a bag of microwave popcorn in it and set it for 7 minutes. After the 7 minutes the chemical smell will be gone and you will be back to the burnt smell
