A typical stair-step has 3+ sq footage. Do you charge it by the number of steps?

$2 per step but I would like to raise it to $2.50 or $3, it takes about 30mins to properly clean the average stair case which is 12-13steps.

$3 per step. I have charged $4 when the steps were very wide.

I carge by the area and count an average staircase as an area. Average staircase here = 15 steps and I charge $30 per avg area, so I am charging $2 per step. If the staircase is extra wide or big I will charge extra.

This is exactly what I charge and I was thinking the same thing about raising it since it takes me a lot longer and more fatigue to clean a flight than a room, and after reading these posts I guess I've actually been low.

I got that price from TMF price guide(thanks rob) I have only done 7 but never lost a job because of stair price or heard a complaint about it. But i only charge $35 for average size rooms and i always hear i am cheaper then others. Ill keep it at $45 till i hear thats too much!

My charge was $3 per stair for typical residential sized stairs. Usually either 12 or 13 stairs for the full staircase. That would be $36 to $39 dollars. If there was a landing, I included that at no additional charge.

In commercial settings, stairs would be wider, so a higher charge.

Stairs get a lot of traffic. They should be charged above the normal rate per sq. ft.

Our official charge is $2 /step ($26-$28 is most common), but I often just charge them as a separate room/area, which is $30 for us.

Ive been charging 4 bucks for stairs recently. I have included spraying prozy on the edge of the stair and working it in with a horse hair brush. This has really inproved results and I believe it worth the extra dollar over my old price of $3.

I count a landing as 2 steps.

I have always equaled a standard stair to 10 s.f.

Right now my s.f. price is .45-.50 so stairs are $4.50-$5.00 each.

You guys charging 2 bucks a stair, think about it, what can you clean faster? 10 Stairs? or 100 s.f.?

I've gone to a linear ft. method on stairs. I charge 1.00 per linear ft. I just measure the width of the stairs being cleaned and count the steps. So a 3 ft. wide stairs will be 3.00 each, 3.5 ft. wide is 3.50 each and 4 ft. wide 4.00 each, etc, etc. I'm a lot happier with this method and plan to keep it in place from now on. Been doing this quite a while now and no objections from customers either.

$3 here all day long. No extra charge for landing, just charge as a step.
