My wife and I drove from WA. State ( 40 min. N of Seattle ), to Arizona, bought a slide-in truckmount
( Steamway 4100 LX • diesel burners ), stuck it in the back of my Toyota T-100 and cleaned my first couple carpets from the bed of that T-100.

Total cost • • all in • • to Start Up • • $1,800

( yes, that includes the TM purchase, the trip there / back - food, gas • • I really meant • • all in.

I still have and use that same TM today !

In my country, we just use broom to clean the carpet. Of course, for some rich people, they are fond of using vacuum cleaner to clean the carpet.

I bought a package trailer deal from Chemtex for about 16-17K. Put it on a credit card.

Well, depends on what you mean by start-up.

Filed our LLC paperwork in May 2019. Cost was $45.

Bought a used 2019 Ford Transit 2500 Extended High Top financed with a brand new Apex 570 truck mount, water tank, water softener, vac/live/fresh hose reels, 6 jet wand, rotovac 360i, turboforce tile spinner, sapphire upholstery waterfall tool, mini turbo spinner and im sure a few other things i've forgotten. Put $25,000 down and financed out the other $55,000.

Website cost $5,000 initially.

Paid a lawyer $1,200 to advise us on the ins and outs of being in an LLC S-Corp, retainer for future problems, ancillary paperwork etc.

Paid $1,200 for a full year of house call pro.

I tracked every purchase I made before I made my first $ which came out to be about $46,xxx. all said and done.

I know most guys won't go with all brand new and invest that heavily to begin with but I wasn't new to the game and knew we would have no problem getting ahead. Website went live in September 2019.

One year later couldn't have asked for a better first year, even with this COVID crap. In fact I think COVID ironically helped our sales after the initial shutdown.

I started with a diamond back storm chaser. $1700 came with hoses and wand. Shortly after bought a rotovac power wand and a mytee hot box.

Took over several hospital accounts of a guy I knew who's health was failing, ironically he was infected with MRSA during a knee surgery at one of the hospitals the very hospitals he serviced. The MRSA ended up killing him.

That was 2006/2007

What can you tell us about the TM ?
• • likes / dislikes ?
I got the 15HP panther. Entry level TM but it did the job. Easy to work on so when something sprang up there was no down time because I could make repairs myself. It also helped that they would keep Tim on call to answer any questions I had about the machine. I also removed all the 90 degree angles to improve air flow and it worked well.

88k is what it cost me to do my first job. Only financed the vehicle. I did put a decent down payment on it.

I spent $30,000 on an almost new van and new TM, then blew through another $30,000 in ads over a three year period. After that I just coasted on repeats and referrals for the next 15 years except for my website.

$32K in 2012 ($15K for 2009 Chevy Express 2500, and $17K for new prochem blazer, 60gal fresh water tank, installation, all accessories and chemicals from Jondon).
Everything still runs great.
