Landed a job for a house boat. The top deck is exposed to the elements. I have not visited the location yet and am not sure what to expect. I'm about to do some research now and thought you all could help me while I'm using the Google machine.

I'm planning on using a 175 to clean this. There is a possibility that mildew will be present. Same process as usual for vlm but with different chems? what would you do?

Thanks!

Have a sample from Excellent supply of Hydrox . The peroxide might have the desired affect on the mildew . May "lighten" the carpet though . Just don't know Ray as I haven't used it on anything yet . Have brushed the DS 2 and then used a bonnet , vacuumed .
Worked great with my Oreck . Messing around with the Vac Away products now on walk off mats and like those too. Make sure you tell the customer there may be color loss etc. before starting since the carpet has been exposed to the elements . Would give that carpet a good inspection for seams lifting etc. before starting as well. Hope it helps .

Thanks for the input. I'm using vacaway products mostly for vlm and I'm planning on using that for this as well and treating it about the same as car carpet. except usually I use HWE on car carpet and agitate with an angle grinder. (I don't do cars other than my own and my family's so far) I'm expecting the carpet to already have a "faded" look for being exposed to sunlight alone. Wouldn't the peroxide brighten the colors more than it would fade it?- to give the appearance of a better clean?

This work is being subbed out to me, but I will take careful notes during inspection. Thanks for the always needed reminder.

Peroxide is one of many things we have to watch using as color loss can occur . I was reminded of this by Excellent Supply and wanted to pass it along Ray . Just didn't want you buying new carpet for the boat !! LOL !! Cleaned an entrance mat with "Intensity Green " the other day as an experiment and it did well. Good smell too. This winter I'll be experimenting a lot with different things . Becoming more and more interested with the "you can't fix that " side of things .
