Unless you can afford to pay $25-30 for a $80-100 job stay away. Unless you can afford to pay $20-30 for multiple people price shopping stay away. Home advisor is awful for small business or business that can't charge big min fees.

They keep me on the phone for 10-20min to refund a job then end up not refunding the job. I looked up myself to see the customers experience and got charged $25. Okay that's fine but they refuse to refund it. Many bad leads they won't refund.

Just giving my experience to whoever is out there thinking about signing up. Also it's $347 for year sign up. Plus you will get price shoppers and bad leads that you will pay for $20-30 I got about 3-5per week .

Piece of advice....Dont rely on others.
I coined the phrase..." I Trust Me And Very Few Others" 10 years ago for good reason. Know what I mean?

My experience with home advisor has been all in all good. However in my market I am the only pro on there for my field. Paying $16-$36 for a job really makes very little impact on the bottom line. When I first got on HA we were just starting. It made people more comfortable knowing we were listed. Still does but I’m not getting as many leads as I once did.
For bad leads I’ve never had to call them. I wonder why you do? Click on the reason the lead was bad and 85% of the time it’s refunded instantly. I do eat bad lead fees every so often.
Not being rude but many carpet cleaners seem to be concerned about fees and such. But many also say how much they are making. If it cost me $36 to gain a job that pays $100 to $150 a hr so be it.
Now that may all not remotely apply to others. I do not know what it would be like to have to pay a fee only to compete against two other companies and have to eat fees all the time if the client didn’t choose you. That may get old fast. My market is small and without my other direct HA competition has been nice.

For every 1 company that says it has been a good fit for them there is always 10 that say to stay away. I have never signed up with them but I will take the advice of the 10 that said to stay away over the 1 that said it was good.

I don’t blame anyone for being skeptical honestly. I think it just maybe my market. The wealthy clients have a sense of reassurance being listed on HA. When I started and had no reputation it was a great platform to launch from. But if I had to big against 2 other companies every time it may grow old quick.

Not referring to azhome&carpet... The problem is that it sometimes works for the one guy who might not be that good and screws the other 9 who have been relying on hard work and reputation from word of mouth.

No replacement for word of mouth and real advertising. All the sites that help you find jobs make you lose profit imo. Small buisness was one of things negatively affected with all this new great technology.
Kind of like the company that pays for Google Ads and has 1 review but is listed above me having 185 reviews. I get that guys will pay for it but it sucks that a start up with 1 review that he left himself is listed above a company that has been busting butt making customers happy for going on 11 years.

Yelp is like that. I joined yelp asked clients to please write a review. Then yelp wouldn’t post them. While I still stay on help I’m not paying for their service ever again.

overall home advisor is built from a company that was practicing proven scams, service magic was making millions shitting on small family owned businesses.. then got caught.

they changed their name to home advisor. then bought Angies list and since their purchase Angies list has gone to complete shit.

They have a board room of people figuring out ways to extract $ from small businesses, and that is their business... not helping you grow.

This is why they fire off tons of marketing after you complete a job with a customer to retain them as theirs, youll find that months after you serviced them your customers will be getting hit with "deals" for your same service but offered by another company. Its very strategic and well thought out, they will only send you just enough business to keep you coming back.

I’ve read a lot more bad things about HA then good for sure. I’m not disappointed I joined however. First week, I had two jobs that paid for the yearly fee. NPR advertises HA a lot in our area maybe it’s why it works. I can say we get way more housekeeping clients then carpet ones however from them.

The yearly fee isn't what gets you. It is the lead fees that will kill you. we offer premium services, and charge premium prices (for our area). So they send the lead to 3-5 different business and charge 15-30 dollars per lead. We go out give a quote and half turn around and give their business to the competitor. Every lost lead is $20 down the drain. We had one instance where and ENITIRE family filled out the carpet cleaning request form and it was submitted to us 4 times under different names but at the same address. cost us upwards of $80 bucks. The family didn't actually want the services, just a quote, and HA wouldn't refund the money for multiple submissions because they were under different names. It took us 2 full months in the cancelation process to be done with them, and conveniently the cancelation went into effect 2 days after the annual renewal that they refused to refund as well. Their predatory practice, and tactics are cringeworthy, and even if I was making some money with them, I would run for the hills. I do not like to associate with companies like this.
