I am not a professional carpet cleaner.
Just moved into a house that has 25yr old white wool berber carpets. The home has been a vacation home so only seen traffic probably 4 weeks a year. The owners would try and shampoo the carpet themselves and there was brown and yellowish staining all over that looked almost like water stains from wicking. So we bought some chemspec browning treatment and followed instructions. We own a residential grade carpet cleaner that works pretty OK. The staining was definitely lightened, however, we are left with an extremely strong odor. It almost smells like amonia or a very acidic muratic acid type smell on the areas where it was sprayed. Ive been using fresh water to extract with no help and have plenty of fans trying to dry it. Does anyone have any recommendations? Anything would help at this point. Could i sprinkle baking soda once its dry?
Thank you.
