Having a lot of money not only makes you happier, you live longer, smoke less, work less and make more, do less drugs, have sex later in life and commit less crime. I know we are taught "money doesn't buy happiness" but Sept 2014 Time magazines "Who we are" poll indicates it does as long as the wealth is accumulated honestly and used correctly.

For example, if you have money you have better chances of being healthy. You can afford the best doctors and the best treatments, you can afford to buy the best food which is fresh and organic. You have plenty of free time to exercise.

A lot of marriages break up because of money problems and the stress of trying to make ends meet. If you have a good sum of money and assets with all of your bills paid, you can relax with your family in beautiful settings. You don't have to stress about cleaning you house. Hard to juggle 3 kids? Just hire someone to help you.

Money can ease poverty. Poverty causes a LOT of sadness. Poverty makes for unhappiness and a short life.

Wealth creates options. Do not to focus on what you own, but on your equity. You have a duty to create value (i.e. wealth) for yourself and your family. Few people understand this. Once you understand this you will realize that money is not evil, just the over loving of money. Money is only a measurement like a yardstick- is a yardstick evil?

By focusing on creating wealth or equity (assets - liabilities) you will have a happy life and you will attract beautiful people into your life.

So take some time and put on an Excel spreadsheet what you own and what you owe. This is an exercise that we should all do regularly and become a metric that you should compare to future measurements. Now you need to develop a plan to create wealth that fits you and your goals.

So can money buy happiness? Well if the absence of funds can create misery, then yes, money can buy happiness - for the person who is ready to CHOOSE happiness and be content with 'enough'. To the naysayers that say "money can't buy you happiness I say poverty can't buy you anything at all!

Having money has a correlation to education. I honestly feel that TMF is like a continued carpet cleaners college education. I learn something new everyday. Here is to your wealth and "happiness"!

I agree with alot of points that you have said.

To me true happiness is to be content with what you have. (think about that)

To me money is a tool, only to be used for when you need something.

To not have money causes alot of problems to the person who constantly thinks of money.

I once met a old gentleman who was as happy as a clam, in his 90's looked like he was in his 60's and stuck to his daily routine, was he constantly thinking about money?

I think stupid people make themselves unhappy regardless of money, people who have no sense of direction and just want to leach of the system and achieve nothing are the unhappy jealous people.

Making money make me happy because it the road to financial freedom. I also think owning a business makes your brain work harder because you need to figure out how to make the cash flow and it would make you happy knowing that your succeeding.

lol for me TMF is the carpet cleaners dictionary:D

I'm by no means rich but for most of my life, I've been pretty poor.
It creates a ton of stress. People are fond of saying "money is evil", "rich people are assholes" .......
My client base , for the most part has quite a few wealthy people in it.
My experience is the inverse of mosts perception . Rich people I've come in contact with are extremely accommodating , down to earth and seem very centered.
They are the easiest clients to deal with and generally treat you with more respect than most.
It's simply not logical that money somehow turns people into malcontents.
It's an idea that's bred from jealousy

I love making money but there is a balance that is commensurate with happiness. Some people have structured their lives haphazardly, such that money becomes their tyrant and they are enslaved by it. This is not the road to happiness but rather, the road to sadness, stress and alcoholism etc.

Rob, you are correct about money attracting beautiful women. Even with what I have (Vipers, houses etc) it is easier for me to get women now than when I was in my 20's. Before some of you say,"Who wants those gold diggers?", realize that they are not all gold diggers but assets give you status in the female world. Women want leaders not followers and scrubs. I can only imagine what being a deep millionaire would be like but this is where I get off the money bus. Too much money is not good. If life becomes too easy and without challenges, it becomes stale. What is the joy of buying an exotic car if the cost is not even significant to you? I prefer to work for my assets and feel the accomplishment of my hard work.

Really?!!! I too value the effort of hard work and the accomplishment of having things that are derived from my toil but......... If I hit the lotto...forget about it.
I'm sipping Mai Tai's in Waimanalo bay until they bury my brown ass in the sandy red dirt of Oahu.
Money is a magic carpet that can take you wherever you want.
Too many things I'd like to do in life and money is the only barrier. It's a nice post but somehow it seems to lack honesty. Do you really feel that way or are you just being the 'vice' to the 'versa'?

Yes money can make you happier and I'm trying to become very happy.

Honestly the ones that worked hard for their money will enjoy it far more and be happier then the one's that was given the money through having a rich family or hitting the lotto.

i think happiness is a choice we make. many people allow finances to determine happiness, rather than having control over there own emotions.

watch a rich dude lose his money. i've seen it many times. they fall apart emotionally.

i refuse to base my happiness on my finances. i think. lol.

money is not the root of all evil, the "love" of money is the root of all evil, aka, greed.

money is the tool with which we can feed and clothe the poor, help others, and build society. but sometimes we just choose to buy happiness, and let the poor starve. (not talking about lazy, but poor. most poor in the US are lazy, but globally, not as much)

Being able to take care of the needs of family and have the time to enjoy them while still paying the bills is important. Beyond that, money or status is a fleeting thing for me. On my deathbed, I won't care about money or toys, but relationships with family and God will be highly important and give me the comfort that money can't provide in and of itself.

God said it better than me:
Ecclesiastes 10:19
Bread is made for laughter, and wine makes life enjoyable; but money answers every need.

I'm going to Seattle next week to rest from my labor. Rough life, indeed...

I clean enough mansions to not want one. There was a little quake in 2004... I was cleaning at Chalk Hill Winery.....all the Venetian plaster cracked in the main house.... From a 20 second shake.... About a $100000 repair.

Life is full of scratches on new toys....

Honestly.... no money does not make me happy, nor is it the base or root of me success. For me and my family the Lord has always and will continue to be my greatest need and sucess. I've had a lot of money and it did not bring me peace or happiness nor was my health better. People with lots of money have one priority or at least the majority have it 1st place in their lives, i mean the majority of you have nothing to ask except for more. Now dont reach for the pitch forks and torches. I do respect money and i understand that it is a part of life and that you do need it to get around but for me in my life it has not been the 1st thing. And im glad it hasnt, lots of people go to the extreme for money to the point of taking their or somenes lives away, look at the research, and look at the past for example during the great depression many committed suicide because of the stock market crash, may he rest in peace but Robin Williams was not only famous but had wealth, and where is he? Money didnt save apples founder Steve Jobs, mc hammer had tons of money and where is he now? Its true that having money has it benefits but not all, just remember money is a great servant but a very cruel master
