There are addons that distract, and some that are lead ins. I get a lot of carpet cleaning jobs because I can stretch and patch.
I don't disagree. I just find that rather than learning how to do it, you are better off contracting someone else to do it. Let a specialist do it. You save your self time and with the right guy the risk.

But you are right it does lead into the cleaning... Some at least.

There is a lot more to laying carpet than you think. But doing repairs will make your customers very happy and that is what it is all about View attachment 57633
You are very correct installing new carpet is a whole different thing. I would only do one small room of new carpet. If its more than that I'm lucky to make about $10 an hour I'm way to slow compared to an installer who does it every day. When it comes to repairs you can make around 80 to $100 an hour if the repair is something your comfortable doing

I pull carpet up all the time and to do that you have to be prepaired to put it back down if you have to. Also doing urine jobs a lot of the time you have to pull the pad if it has a wood sub floor and sometimes you need to show your customer what their carpet looks like . In this picture the carpet is done , I pulled the carpet and the pad

I've been learning over the years, I have a guy who install carpets I've been watching how he does it.
now when the job is easy I'll do it myself and when is kind a complicated or I'm busy, I call him and I'll try to get 40%-50% always.

The way I handle it is that I handle the simple stretches. The complicated stretches I leave to a sub contractor that charges me $75 per room and I then ad $25 per rooom. If there is furniture involved, then I charge $10.00 per piece I have to move to stretch the carpet. I have increased my profits significantly by adding the service.

There's a carpet repair class coming up that I've been on the fence about taking. Is there any guesses on how much $ it will take to have the proper tools to do basic repair?

I really would feel more comfortable learning to do it myself and knowing that the job is done right. If I subcontract the work and a shitty job is done it comes back on my companies name. I am not lazy so no excuse for me not to learn. As for those who say add ons are a distraction I am capable of multi tasking and knowing how to do more then one thing in life lol.

Repairs can build a fantastic business for you if you learn how to do it properly and if you learn how to perform the repairs that are really important.
These types of repairs can open doors to cleaning work you would have never gotten by being a cleaner alone.
Learn how to do the ones that save people a lot of money, quality property management companies in upscale properties are gold mines to work.

With carpet stretching there is not a lot of risk. sometimes you can mess something up, but if you are careful it can be a money maker. Why not be the expert rather than hiring the expert?

How many of you offer carpet stretching? I have never done it but have watched numerous videos and it seems to be easy as hell to do. Also if you do offer this service are you using a power stretcher or just a carpet kicker? Lastly, approx. what are you charging per room to do this? Just wondering if it is beneficial or not before I get to far into it. I am asked often if I do it but never took the time to research. Thanks
Some situations are easy. Some are a nightmare and only experience will let you know which is which.
Knowing the difference helps you know how to price.
I like to get at least $200 per hour when doing stretches.
I don't do enough to carry my tools and truthfully, I rarely see carpets any more that need it.
If I see a stretch, I book it for a different day.
Classes are great but nothing next to hands on experience.

Correct 6 months after you take a class youll realize the class didn't teach you very much at all
