About 15 mins south of me there is tons of wealth. I'm doin my best to start gaining business down there for carpet and window cleaning. Where are you located? Or where were you located?Everyone in MI hunts. Heck, the big three close down during the two week gun season.
I currently do both. I can tell you I like the money in carpet cleaning much more and it is more rewarding. Their is some cash flow in lawn. I have done the math 20 ways from sunday. If you want to make a decent living mowing it won't happen unless you have large residentals or commercial accounts with multiple crews. The only reason I do it is to prevent my customers from calling anyone else(property managers)I do bill out my mower for $50-$60 and hour when it is running. Handhelds get .50 a minute when running. I am still toying with the idea of dropping lawn care because it sucks and everyone is a whore. I do not have alot of accounts because I refuse to lose money. I do more neglected mows. I lived by close to where you are at. You do not have the "money" in that area if I remember right to pay a premium for your services. I was looking at moving back to the area and move our business. I just couldn't make the #'s work. If you get a great deal on the equipment and have some one tp run the equipment then it will be constant cash flow. If you plan on doing it, I wouldn't. Just my .02
