There are a ton of ways accidents can happen in our industry. It can be minor to major. Safety is often over looked. Let's compile a list of accidents;

1) Carbon monoxide poisoning
2) Peoples pets-(I was told in a class that a small dog lost his insides when sniffing a truck mount vacuum hose.)
3) Burns from chemicals & heat
4) Not using hand rails on stairs & slipping down them
5) Allergic reactions
6) Texting,talking & GPS'ing while driving
7) Carelessness around furnishings
8) Backing vehicles in driveways
9) Spiral staircases
10) Slip & Fall from wet carpet to hard surfaces
11)
...

Try explaining #1 that to a homeowner.

Backing of box trucks and cargo vans is the biggest on my list ....way to many blind spots. For the crews....it is mandatory that they walk 360 degrees around the vehicle before backing. On two man crews....the passenger is out of the cab and is a guide man, until fully clear of hazards.

34 years and the most frequent and serious mishap involved spiral staircases.
Those things shout be outlawed.

i swear i say a little prayer before i work in a house that has those. I hate spirals.....my ex had a spiral staircase in her house. I cant tell you how many times i fell down them while partaking in a few adult beverages.

Frozen or busted outdoor faucets leaking into structures
Damage to your body moving furniture, pulling wet carpet, etc.....
Biohazards cleaning bodily fluids, sewage backups, mold, etc.....
Getting attacked by crack heads sleeping in closets of vacant houses ( I don't think its an accident but definitely a hazard)
Parking over septic tanks and lines ( I have quite a few customers tell me to pull in the yard )
Moisture damage to electronics
..........

The one day my stair tool broke on me, I had to use my carpet wand on a Spiral Staircase. I slipped down 3 stairs while I was holding my wand. It happened so fast, I didn't have time to let go of my wand and it pulled my shoulder out of Socket:mad:. My whole day was ruined

Fingers getting pinched in the many places possible on the reels.

I think the texting while driving thing is going to get worse. I see everyone doing it. Insane.

Climbing up outside hotel balconies cause your don't wanna walk to the stairs. I get a little right on the 3 rd floor. Then i forget something and have to shimmy back down. Of course one thinks about hoses as a repel rope but don't wanna shorten the life of hoses. I tell you that is dangerous. Ok if toy haven't figured it out this is bs. BUT as a young man working in my parents hotel i actually did this on a daily basis. Just cause the dang stairs were spread out so much and i could hold myself easily with one arm. And could do 30 pull ups at a time helped to. Mentioning cause you may have young workers and they think much different.
