This is just plastic bottled water.
What about Soda in plastic bottles
Or microwave plastic containers?

Widespread consumer demand for plastic products that are free of the hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) has led to some significant positive changes in the way that food, beverage and water containers are manufactured.

But a new study out of Germany has found that thousands of other potentially harmful chemicals are still leeching from plastic products into food and beverages, including an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) known as di(2-ethylhexyl) fumarate, or DEHF, that is completely unregulated.

Martin Wagner and his colleague, Jorg Oehlmann, from the Goethe University Frankfurt, in conjunction with a team of researchers from the German Federal Institute of Hydrology, learned this after conducting tests on 18 different bottled water products to look for the presence of EDCs.

Using an advanced combination of bioassay work and high-resolution mass spectrometry, the team identified some 24,520 different chemicals present in the tested water.

But of major concern, and the apparent underpinning of the study’s findings, was DEHF, a plasticizer chemical that is used to make plastic bottles more flexible. According to reports, DEHF was clearly identified in the tested water as the most consistent and obvious culprit causing anti-estrogenic activity.

Plastic-water-bottles-1024x682.jpg

Despite trace amounts of more than 24,000 other potentially damaging chemicals, DEHF stood out as the only possible EDC capable of inducing this particular observed activity, a highly concerning observation.

The study’s published abstract explains that 13 of the 18
bottled water products tested exhibited “significant” anti-estrogenic activity, while 16 of the 18 samples were found to inhibit the body’s androgen receptors by an astounding 90 percent. Additionally, the other 24,520 chemical traces besides DEHF were also identified as exhibiting antagonistic activity, which means that they, too, are detrimental to the body’s hormonal system.

Many thousands of endocrine-disrupting chemicals used in plastic production prove material unsafe

But DEHF is apparently not alone in causing significant damage to the endocrine system, as the team was unable to identify this chemical as being specifically anti-androgenic. What this suggests is that there is some other chemical, or chemical combination, being leeched into bottled water that is interfering with the body’s chemical signaling system, which is, of course, responsible for hormone production and use within the body.

“We confirmed the identity and biological activity of DEHF and additional isomers of dioctyl fumarate and maleate using authentic standards,” report the researchers. “Since DEHF is anti-estrogenic but not anti-androgenic we conclude that additional, yet unidentified EDCs must contribute to the antagonistic effect of bottled water.”
So while these specific findings concerning DEHF are groundbreaking, the overall conclusion to be drawn from this research is that far more study is needed to determine the types of
chemicals that are being leeched from plastic into our food and water, not to mention the extent of this leeching. And since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the rest of the three-letter government agencies will surely never get around to conducting this important research, independent science will simply have to take up the charge.
“This work is a ‘tour de force’ in identification of
endocrine disruptors in packaged materials,” says Bruce Blumberg from the University of California, Irvine, as quoted by Chemistry World. This type of analysis, he adds, “will be very important for our future understanding of what chemicals we are routinely exposed to and which of these pose hazards of being endocrine disruptors.”
You can read the full study abstract here:

In the meantime, conscious consumers can avoid plastic containers whenever possible and simply use glass or steel containers instead to avoid these unknown risks.

I had two containers of bottled water.
Ice Mountain

One bottle came from a case from Costco another from a Meijer Gas Station.
Both bottles stayed in the garage in a very cold 2013 / 2014 winter.
The larger bottle froze solid the smaller bottle did not freeze at all.
Both bottles where near the out side large door about two feet from each other. One bottle was on the 3 rd. shelf and the other about two feet higher on another shelf.
It was very troubling to me, so much I quit drinking bottled water.

U.S. Drinking Water Widely Contaminated
EPA finds 202 unregulated chemicals in 45 states

Dec 14, 2009 |By
Taryn Luntz

A three-year study of the nation's drinking water quality has found more than 200 unregulated chemicals in the tap water of 45 states.

The Environmental Working Group analysis of 20 million tap water quality tests found a total of 316
contaminants -- including industrial solvents, weed killers, refrigerants and the rocket fuel component perchlorate -- in water supplied to the public between 2004 and 2009.

U.S. EPA regulates 114 of those pollutants, setting maximum legal levels that water utilities achieved 92 percent of the time, according to the study.

EWG frets that the remaining chemicals, which have no mandatory federal safety standards, can come in potentially toxic combinations for long-term consumption.
"Utilities do the best job that they can treating a big problem with limited resources, but we must do better," said Jane Houlihan, the group's senior vice president for research. "It is not uncommon for people to drink tap water laced with 20 or 30 chemical contaminants. This water may be legal, but it raises serious health concerns."

The pollutants derive from a wealth of sources, including
agriculture, factory discharges, consumer products, urban runoff and wastewater treatment plants.
The annual water quality reports that utilities are required to send customers provide a partial picture, the study says, as they contain no information on unregulated chemicals. They also provide average levels of most contaminants, which do not reveal if there were short periods when chemicals spiked past legal limits.

EPA in September said it was
considering regulating 104 additional chemicals in tap water, including pesticides, commercial chemicals, disinfection byproducts, and for the first time, pharmaceuticals.

OK
fine then
do something about it.
Cut and pasting to a carpet cleaning forum aint doing a damn thing.
Go protest, petition your local and national politicians. Form protest groups or new political parties.

But

Driving yourself insane and isolating yourself in some bubble of your own delusion is NOT cool.
especially when most of the stuff you are freaking out about are nothing but over exaggerations meant to make someone else cash. The very thing you are railing against. Yet you are being used as nothing but a revenue generation source for these sites you link.

Do you not see how you are being used. You are nothing but a battery in this. A source of cash, money. They will feed you anything if you come back and click on their site and their ads.

Look around, if you can not figure out who the rube is,
its probably YOU!

Interactive Water Pollution Map Shows Where Polluters Actually Are
Very similar to the Interactive Airport Map I wrote about last week, this story that broke out in the New York Times, Toxic Waters – Clean Water Laws are Neglected at a Cost in Suffering, is another eye opener that is made even more compelling through the use of an interactive map.
This is not working for me.

Water Pollution Facts
Water is the greatest gift of nature. Humans have exploited this natural resource to a level where controlling
water pollution is impossible. Here are some important reasons why water is considered as a precious natural resource. The misuse of this can cause damaging consequences and a threat to human life. Here is an interesting way to analyze how water pollution is gradually causing so many deaths worldwide.
What is Water Pollution?
According to Wikipedia, “Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater). Water pollution occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities.
The use of hazardous chemicals in manufacturing industries and agriculture cause severe water pollution as waste from these industries goes directly into near by rivers, lakes and ponds. This not only affects the quality of water but also pose danger to several endangered aquatic species.

Below are 40 Facts on Water Pollution
Fact 1: The total volume of water available on Earth is about 1.4 billion km and about 70% of the earth is covered in water.
Fact 2: The largest quantities of water are in the oceans.
Fact 3: Fresh water in the world is only 2.5% of the total water available on this planet.
Fact 4: Around 70% of the industrial waste is dumped into the water bodies where they pollute the usable water supply.
Fact 5: At least 320 million people in China do not have access to clean drinking water.
Fact 6: 20% of the groundwater in China is used as drinking water which is highly contaminated with carcinogenic chemicals which cause high levels of water pollution.
Fact 7: Fourteen billion pounds of garbage mostly plastic, is dumped into the ocean every year.
Fact 8: The nuclear crisis that occurred in Japan after 2011
Tsunami prompted Japanese government dumped 11 million liters (2 million gallons) of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean.
Fact 9: 15 million children under the age of five die each year because of diseases caused by drinking water.
Fact 10: The Ganges river in India is one the most polluted in the world. It contain sewage, trash, food, and animal remains.
Fact 11: According to the WHO (World Health Organization) and United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), around 2.5 billion people do not have access to improved sanitation.
Fact 12: The 2011 Tsunami in Japan created 70 km long island of debris which is floating out into the Pacific Ocean.
Fact 13: Ground water in Bangladesh is contaminated with arsenic. Arsenic is very toxic, acute poison and a carcinogen. Approximately 85% of the total area of Bangladesh has contaminated groundwater.
Fact 14: In America, 40% of the rivers and 46% of the lakes are polluted and are considered unhealthy for swimming, fishing or aquatic life.
Fact 15: According to UNICEF, more than 3000 children die everyday globally due to consumption of contaminated drinking water.
Fact 16: Water pollution is the major cause of various diseases like cholera and typhoid.
Fact 17: On an average 250 million people worldwide succumb to diseases related to water pollution.
Fact 18: According to the World Health Organization, 3.2 million children under the age of five in developing nations die each year as a result of unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation.
Fact 19: 80% of the water pollution is caused due to domestic sewage like throwing garbage on open ground and water bodies.
Fact 20: According to the survey done by Food & Water Watch cites that approximately 3.5 billion people in 2025 will face water shortage issues. This will be mainly due to water pollution. This is likely to happen because the world pollution is increasing tremendously with more water sources getting contaminated as a result of water pollution.

Fact 21: As per U.S. EPA estimates, every year in the U.S, 1.2 trillion gallons of sewage from household, industry and restaurants is dumped in to U.S. water annually.
Fact 22: Asia has maximum numbers of polluted rivers than anywhere else in the world. Most of it contains bacteria created from human waste.
Fact 23: Plastic waste being a major water pollutant, is causing huge destruction of marine life and is believed to be responsible for deaths of more than 100,000 sea mammals, sea birds and various types of fishes.
Fact 24: Canada has 10 most polluted rivers- some of which are Petitcodiac River, Okanagan river and Eastmain River.
Fact 25: The waste produced in the river contains bacteria, parasites and viruses. These cause life- threatening diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid.
Fact 26: Rivers in Asian subcontinent re considered to be the most polluted. The bacteria (from human waste) found in these rivers are 3 times as much as that of the global average.
Fact 27: About 700 million people worldwide drink contaminated water.
Fact 28: Important water contaminants which are man-made include heavy metals, nutrients, microbial pathogens, sediments, organic matter etc.
Fact 29: About 1.2 billion people or 1 in 3 people in rural areas defecate in the open. Open defecation poses an human health risk and compromises quality in nearby water bodies.
Fact 30: Aquatic animal have faced an estimated extinction rate five times more than that of terrestrial animals.
Fact 31: According to WHO and UNICEF, approximately 894 million people globally don’t have access to improved water sources.
Fact 32: Over 30 billion tons of urban sewage discharged into lakes, rivers and oceans each year.
Fact 33: Leather and chemical industries cause are major contributors of water pollution and are emerging leading market economies.
Fact 34: Two million tons of human waste is disposed in water everyday.
Fact 35: As per reports by UNESCO, 27% of the urban population do not have piped water in their homes.
Fact 36: An estimated 1000 children die every day in India due to
polluted water.
Fact 37: Lack of safe drinking water and sanitation in cities leads to cholera, malaria and diarrhoea.
Fact 38: Huge oil spill was caused by BP in the year 2010. Over 1,000 animals i.e. birds, turtles, mammals have been reported dead and many of them were on the endangered species list.
Fact 39: Each year 1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage, storm water, and
industrial waste are dumped into U.S. waters.
Fact 40: Cruise ships are also a major source of water pollution. They produce over 200,000 gallons of sewage which is mostly released in the ocean. Apart form that, they are also causing at least 35,000 gallons of water contamination due to oil spill.
Even though people have already started taking precautions, the water pollution levels are rising rapidly and there is very little hope left to the polluted water bodies. One big step that every human being can take to prevent water pollution is to minimize water contamination and wastage from their side at every possible level. This was we will be able to save some clean water for the future generations.

Bottled water found to contain over 24,000 toxic chemicals

That must of been one big a*s bottle. :)
In a recent study by German researchers, nearly 25,000 chemicals were found lurking in a single bottle of water. Many of these chemicals mimic the effects of potent pharmaceuticals inside your body, according to the study published in the journal PLoS One.

The study was broken into two parts. For the initial portion, the researchers tested 18 samples of various commercially sold water bottles from around the globe. Through chemical analyses, they tested the water to determine if it interfered with the body's estrogen and androgen receptors. Tap water was tested as well, for comparison. The researchers were shocked to learn that most of the bottled waters revealed interference with both kinds of hormone receptors; amounts as little as 0.1 ounces inhibited estrogenic activity by 60 percent and androgenic activity by 90 percent. The tap water, on the other hand, showed no activity on either form of receptor.
