You sound like you have used most to everything. Do you know if Mercury is a good brand? Saw this on craigslist and looking to get my start with VLM. Only 175 I see for sale so far is a Mercury Lo Boy 175 and its 3 hours to it. I could maybe get it for 400 though.

Will try to barter him down for the 175. But don't want to end up with that if it's too violent like you were describing
Mercury 175 should be ok

I doubt a 175 would be too violent but what size is it

20'' is big and would be difficult to use on most occupied residential

And what condition is the 175 in

You don't want to take a beat up dirty 175 into a paying customers house

Ohh. So is a trinity freedom not a 175 then? Still learning but that makes sense. The 175 I'm looking at seems clean. I've been trying to get a 175 asap, but can't get anybody on Craigslist to respond. Might just have to order a new one. I'll be going 17" and will pick up a 13" oreck orbiter for stairs or I might do the step son like you have/ pick up a pad attachment for a drill until I can get one

I ended up getting a 17" Mercury off Craigslist. Don't think it was ever used, guy said his apartment couldn't run it well without throwing switches and that's all he got it for.

What's your agitation pad and extracting bonnet of choice now? I ended up starting with carpet details as chem. Your thread is a gold mine of information for VLM.

Had some Commercial Carpet Cleaning fun today

Did this Women's Clothing Store. Small store with wood floors and building was built in 1855

Second time cleaning this store. First time was in 2017

Not a job for Phoenix or Whittaker Trio

So I used my 13'' Hawk 175-300 with Bonnet Pro Ironman Cotton Bonnets and Whittaker Crystal Dry Encap

I scrubbed with Bonnet Pro's Multi Brush System with a fiber pad first and it did a really good job before extracting with Ironman Bonnets

These are the before pictures. Store had a lot of spots throughout store

I forgot to take after pictures but the carpet looked beautiful when I was done

I love the Whittaker Encaps for Commercial Carpet Cleaning. Green Certified, Odorless, and they CLEAN !!!

Or if you got a brush attachment recommendation I'm all ears
I like a brush for scrubbing residential carpet before extracting with a Bonnet Pro Ironman Cotton Bonnet

Here is the brush I use for residential. I've had that brush for over 10 years but I forgot where I bought it or what it's called.

Most of the weight from the 175 sits on the round plastic center piece and not on the brushes

Or you could get the Bonnet Pro Multi Brush System for your 17''. You can use a Fiber pad or Cotton Bonnet with it

I'm not sure but I think Multi Brush is made for 17''

I have a riser on the Multi Brush so it can be used with my 13'' Hawk.

A 175 leaves bad swirl marks in residential carpet and some commercial carpet. Your going to need a Carpet Brush/Rake to groom carpet after cleaning to get swirl marks out

Did my first carpet today and it came out amazing! Used Mercury Lo Boy 17" and carpet details. Only complaint was that I used the Oreck Orbiter with one of my red scrubbing pads ( zinger red pads from encapstore) and instantly ruined it trying to take it off the damn velcro pad driver.. Lol sounds like the same issue I've read about you vibe users accidentally getting iron man bonnets stuck to the bottom.

Machine was kind of working me hard too I can see how it takes a bit to get into the groove of using a 175.

Do you guys offer stretching too?

I'm hoping to have a encap success post here coming soon with pictures. Doing a berber that hasn't been cleaned ever in the 20 years it's been in their house. I'm planning on using 175/orbiter superchain uncapped with blue microfiber pads for agitation and ironmans to extract.

I've never done a berber, will ironman still work good on them? Also how about the grooming, all I have is the grandi rake which I am not a fan of.. feels very cheap. I'm sure you guys got a better grooming rake, what do you guys have?

Ironman will work on berber and you won't need to groom berber

Here are the 2 Carpet Brushes I use to groom

The Brush on the left is at least 20 Years old and the Brush on the right is a Whittaker Carpet Roamer

Most of the time I use a 10'' CRB to groom carpet but some carpets look just as good or better with a brush and it's much faster grooming with a Brush
