I have not had it happen on upholstery but a few years back I went to a customers house that had pink spots all over the place. She said it did not look like that before cleaning. I did some testing and found that fiber rinse was able to correct the problem. It was basically "browning" but it was pink instead of brown.
I would tell him to mix in a spray bottle 1/2 fiber rinse concentrate and 1/2 water, mist it on and towel it off and see if that corrects the problem.
I agree with Todd. I've never had one to turn pink, but it's got to be a ph problem. Lowering the ph of the fabric and brushing it may reverse the situation if they're lucky. If not, I hope he's got insurance.
Cotton or synthetic?
Sounds like high alkaline ph issue. An acid rinse or browning product may work. No need to try in an inconspicuous area, at this point he corrects it or buys it!
