31/2 years of reading these guys posts and you haven't learned anything about it?Well I dont even know what your talking about.![]()
It is all very stressful. We as carpet cleaners put ourselves out there everyday. It is hard enough to make a buck without the customers throwing rocks at you from the sidelines.I've had a lot of exposure and experience with mobile homes, and several factors occur regularly.
1)If the main wiring from the home to the park service is aluminum, it corrodes and turns to dust, losing the connection.
2)As Vito said, the connection to the bus bar gets loose.
3)Sometimes the electrical outlets go bad, causing an entire circuit to go out. Easiest thing to do is change out all the outlets.
In any case, it's not your fault, obviously something malfunctioned in the home, but that does not stop the homeowner from blaming you for it.
hey Grant!! you going to Vegas next year? hope you and Robin can make it!! nice to have a Canadian entourage there!I would be curious to see what the Electrician has to say.
Unless this is the brother of the lady in mobile home.
As licensed electrician would know what happened and also know how to fix it!
Ya that would be nice .... Show them how to drink beer !hey Grant!! you going to Vegas next year? hope you and Robin can make it!! nice to have a Canadian entourage there!
Yes, the first thing I did was go to the breaker box and check the breakers. I then turned off each breaker and then turned them back on. I also searched the house for a GFI plug and there were none. I am thinking that the load from my porty caused things to be heated up, with the lights on and might have caused something to heat up and back out of place. I told the lady to remove her wall plugs and check behind them and make sure something didn't come off. I would do it myself but at this point I am scared to death to go over there and touch anything.I agree is not your fault at all.. Her wiring is old...Maybe breaker could of had a loose wire and the amp draw could of heated up loosen off the breaker.. If they are older Pushmatic breakers which are found in most older mobile homes around here , they go bad over time and a higher load could cause them to go bad.. I would also ask her to see if the breakers are reset ..Off to on. Sometimes they trip and look still look on... Take each one and reset them .. Loose lug on half the the panel could cause as said...
Question I have to ask did you plug into a GFIC outlet... The kind you find in a kitchen or bath room .. I have seen some crazy wiring that could cause a few rooms to go out... Reset the GFIC little button will lite up it she has them..
One other idea is to have her call the Power company in her area... They in some cases will check the outside to see if she lost a leg to the meter... I have seen this happen to during summer months...High amp draw leg loosen or on the pole.. Ask her to do this first...Power company if its inside will tell her what the problem is... Could be easy under 20 dollars fix or less..
lol so its better the old lady gets BBQed than yourself!!Yes, the first thing I did was go to the breaker box and check the breakers. I then turned off each breaker and then turned them back on. A few weeks ago I was cleaning a mobile home with my EDIC Porty when all of a sudden it shout down on me in the middle of the job. I immediately checked the fuse panel on the home and there were no breakers that were triggered. All the exterior plugs, the living room interior plugs, and a couple of ceiling lights had all stopped working. The tenant told me, no big deal, and would have her brother look at it. She said that the place had some weird electrical issues sometimes. So I went about my business, plugged my porty into a working plug, and finished the job.
I got a call today from the mobile owner telling me that they could not fix the problem and that there is most likely a melted wire within the walls somewhere. She told me that it was going to be costly to fix and asked me if I had insurance. I told her that she was going to have to report it to her insurance company because I did not think I was liable for the damage. I told her that I was using a newer machine that was made to be plugged into a residential outlet. I told her the same thing might have happened if someone plugged in a leaf blower. She said that the place was old. There did seem to be a lot of things tied into that circuit, living room plugs, ceiling lights, and exterior plugs.
Anyway, she said that she would call her insurance and report it but they might want to question me. UGH!!!!!!!!! This is why I hate working on mobile homes. Anyway, am I liable for this? I really can't afford to be wiring some old lady's mobile home.
