I am currently running a 3.3 blower behind my 20hp Kohler. I found a used 4.5 blower for a decent price and was wondering if my 20hp Kohler would be up to the job.
I used a 5.8 Butler system for years before I bought a affordable unit and went out on my own. The 3.3 gets the job done but with about a thousand more vacuum passes per job.

A spitfire 4.0 by hydramaster has a 45 blower and a 20hp engine. By the way if you need a 45 blower I have one for sale.

20 hp is about the smallest I would go with a 45 blower. If you do put in the larger blower I would also plan on moving up to a bigger engine next time you replace it.

Wudnt do the 4.5 with a 20 hp...
Maybe 4.0
I run 4.5 with a 30 hp and 33 hp....
iT might run but it will bog down and you wont get maximumperformanc...
Changing the blower size and or ngine size can be tricky....
I have changed engine and blower size on both my namcos. But i have belt driven machines...
I hear the coupler can be a pain unless you have a mechanic...

Roots 45 requires 15.4 bhp running at 15" hg figure your pressure pump is asking for 3 to 4 bhp doesn't leave alot of wiggle room no service factor figured in that either....like Todd said above I'd look for a little bigger engine sooner than later....even 5 horse more would make the difference.

You should go from a 33 to a 36, huge improvement and you have the hp to do it...you can find one pretty cheap and it should bolt straight it in you have the extra depth in the mounting area. Go for it.
