I had to bring this thread back to life because I think about how you diss Dyson and that bothers me that you would mis inform people just to try to sell one. But I guess that's what Kirby dealers are known for. People should know the truth.
If The Dyson can't suck up some paper (LOL) then the Kirby can't either. When comparing Apples to Apples Dyson RANKED HIGHER than the Kirby by Consumer reports. (March 2010)Why you ask? Because they don't sell them and they're not Biased. Plus it costs waaayy less. Good Night

Rob I have always respected your opinions but I will have to disagree with you on this one. I think your tests are incomplete and I would prefer to have someone do a test that is non biased. I do however appreciate the time u spent on this. I always felt sorry for the people who kirby tries to send to my home for one of their demos. Honestly 9 out of 10 of them I wouldnt let in my home. Bad image as far as I am concerned. I have used kirby I like them. I have used dyson and I like those too. Imho I feel like you are just trying to sell kirbys. Lets see those pictures of those results. Or better yet maybe someone who could care a less about the results do the testing.

Just because something costs more does not mean it works better. Lets face it I could hook my TM up to my turbocat and get way more suction than a kirby or a dyson. I just dont like running all that dust thru my machine.

The Kirby is what I use and prefer. What anyone else uses is fine with me as long as folks pre-vacuum they can use just about anything.

Now let me say this about Consumer Reports. In past years they have rated exact same machines with different labels on them as better than the other. (Eureka over Sanitaire when Eureka makes it and it just has a different label on it) I mean exactly the same too. I have also seen Consumer Reports rate exactly the same machines but one that had a light bulb was rated deeper cleaning than the other. So I don't have faith in Consumer Reports. But I do have faith in the fact that vacuums are more of a personal taste than anything else. If you like a certain brand then certainly you should use it. To me Kirby's are a little heavy but I like the all metal look vs a plastic look in front of a customer. It looks more industrial and the fact that this one model is no longer made customers rarely see it or know what it is. All they know is the carpets now look great. Remember this business is all about visuals and the business image you project imho.

Thanks Randall I appreciate your input. And I didn't do all the testing. It was done by an independent source. Personally I don't care if I ever sell anymore Kirbys. They take a lot of time to rebuild (about 2 hours including buffing) and the few dollars I make off of one. I can make double in 10 minutes spraying pest control in a custys home for ants.

So I make my money off of my Carpet,WD and Termite & Pest control companies not Kirby vacuums. I just have it as a source for those who may desire one that is rebuilt correctly. The only one I will offer is one older model the Heritage 2 because that is what I use. I like the all metal design and it will last one forever as it is easy to tune and maintain after I rebuild one. I don't like their other models at all because they are not made as well. Kirby's are a little heavy and they are not for everyone. And as I stated in the above thread it doesn't matter what you use as long as you prevacuum,Dysons included.
