What % of gross does your advertising run at?

0% (well 0.008% if you count website hosting and email vendor)

Employee Benefits, Anyone use a PEO?

Hey rug suckers, I find myself hiring again as some great part-timers are moving on and I still haven’t found a great full time tech. I wonder if I would have better retention and better applicants if I were able to offer employee benefits... looking at PEOs like JustWorks and such to attempt...

Liability? Need to refer customer to water restoration, they refuse.

When you have “insured” written on van and/or website gotta watch your back and CYA. Already been pinned with something before. People know insurance companies will settle on gray areas and eat good hard working local companies for lunch on their way to scam your insurance.

Liability? Need to refer customer to water restoration, they refuse.

I was refusing the job. Customers don’t accept a refusal easily. It’s weird. Was hoping to stick some legal jargon in an email to get him to leave me alone. It passed as tenant wouldn’t cooperate with landlord to move their junk for a restoration crew or me as a cleaner.

Liability? Need to refer customer to water restoration, they refuse.

Didn’t go, just all over the phone. Half the reason I was refusing the job is that I would be another 3 days before I got to a 4 days old water leak. In the end the tenant just shop vacuumed it and put regular fans because the landlord (customer) said they would have to move their stuff out of...

Why does the public feel they can negotiate our prices?

Anyone with "I think I can get someone at a lower price." "Indeed, you most certainly can. But we are this price. What day did you want again? I have an 8:30am or a Noon time available 2 weeks from now."

Why does the public feel they can negotiate our prices?

Hey, I had to start somewhere! lol CFX & Rotovac, now 2 TM vans. What used to be my weekly sales quota upon opening is now my daily per-van quota.

    Unemployment Claim

Only missed the deadline because their website took too long to “verify” my new registration after the mail day a couple days (I only read mail weekly anyway) If the state would streamline their system so returns, payments, and claims are all on the same website woulda been done.

    Unemployment Claim

I just didn’t know if I am gonna be directly paying his benefits for a year or what. That’s I’m posting to find out... no biggie? Great, no biggie. If I’m writing out $13k+ in checks for an employee who’s not here anymore... then dang, I might not ever hire again.

Liability? Need to refer customer to water restoration, they refuse.

Customer calls for cleaning, later comes out or is discovered on-site that there is a days old a/c leak and the padding is soaked and who knows what else. I refuse cleaning job and refer customer to a restoration company and suggest they call their insurance company. Customer refuses to deal...

    Unemployment Claim

Had to let a tech go that missed a lot of workdays and I got a lot of complaints on... now got an unemployment claim letter. Didn’t see it for a few days, too late to send info in before the deadline, how screwed am I? Anyone else dealt with paying UI? Could last a full year.

    2 trucks vs 1

I’ve sent 2 trucks to Upholstery only jobs... big white sectional couches take forever cleaning 2” at a time.

    2 trucks vs 1

One thing I learned for sure with 2 trucks for 2 years is that 2 TRUCKS SUCKS! Gotta go for more trucks to be worth expansion headache.

    2 trucks vs 1

I’m sitting back in that crossroads again... Went to 2 trucks in 2017. Tried 2 techs per van for a quick second, settled to one tech on newest van and I drive older (sometimes busted) one cuz I know her well... Easily did $250k/yr top line with no ad spend besides website and re-marketing...

    Apartments

Glad I stumbled onto this... I have a complex emails me for a few weeks, but it is Mid-America and I used to rent from a Mid-America place so I know they are crapiddy-crap-crap management to deal with so I haven't replied. Thought maybe the new economy got rid of the old super low wet-it &...

    Technician pay

BS! I’m not gonna carry that baggage. Got 2 guys who are happy to be here and many lazy people who quit. Good riddance!

Rob, please tell us how it is done.

First, raise rates. Still busy at new rates, then hire and you'll have better cash flow for it. (pick really awesome people you can trust to work with little supervision. If they aren't awesome, fire em, trade up. Don't settle for poor attitudes.) Went to 2 vans last year. Got scary for a...

    Housecall Pro - No Class

Ok.... maybe I won't be so nice anymore... I just got the email about my "free trial ending" but I did not sign up under a free trial. I've been paying like $600/yr from day 1

    Housecall Pro - No Class

Don't we all start out with low prices or offering some free services to gain clients and accounts?... then once you have enough clients to eat and pay bills with some steady increase of referrals... price goes up. My prices have increased over the past 3 years, thanks in large part to a...

    Glide Glue?

I put this glue on the inside and in the wand lip (longer hold than goop), then use silicone or goop to seal the edges. Re-seal as needed, but that glue has held for a while. I heat the glide in the oven before attaching so it is more mailable for a flush fit.

Housecall pro and yelp integrated pilot

No one likes to call anymore, so click-to-schedule is going to be some part of the future but this short circuits pre-qualifying new customers. Too many customers with a max budget below my minimum and the ones who do have $ think I can clean their 5,000+ sq/ft house in an hour. Gotta set 'em...
