    window cleaning

I have decided that I will be implementing window cleaning to my list of services.

Do any of you guys do window cleaning? It seems to be an easy service to add with little upfront costs, and if it doesnt work out...well 100 dollars down the drain is not a bad investment.

    what are the challenges Jeff?

I would think it could be difficult cleaning second and third story windows.

Window cleaning is a profitable service to provide, but not just in the sense of the revenue from the window cleaning. It can open doors to us as carpet cleaners that we may not always get into, as a carpet cleaner.

Then once we are performing window cleaning services for the consumer, it is a short jump to start doing their carpets, draperies, uphol and whatever else we may clean.

Here are some of the homes that have proven to be worthwhile to clean but to also perform other services that the window cleaning opened up for us.

You will need to click on the photo to see the slide show

Here is a video that may help with your thoughts, I like to use Pure Water Systems to clean windows. By focusing on "High and Hard to Reach Windows", it has opened a lot of doors for work.

We rarely ever use a ladder, even with very high windows, inside or out. (The inside is a pretty neat event but that will be for another time)

Hope you enjoy. Any questions? Let me know.

Here is an article that was written about on this very subject in Feb '08 in Cleanfax Mag, you may enjoy reading it. You may have to copy and paste this in a web page to view the article

    http://www.cleanfax.com/article.asp?IndexID=6636827

The article also had a lot of different photos of homes but they do not show up in the link.

Most of the difficulty is on the outside. Bushes and shrubs can make it difficult to clean even on lower level windows. I do not like ladder work so my brother does most of that. One way to get away from most ladder work would be to invest in a water-fed pole and pure water system. I nice system can run 4 to 7k but you can get and economy system for around $500.00.

Steve Andrews has a ladderless window cleaning system that he sells. If he is reading maybe he can shed some more light on the subject.

I clean windows. I added CC'ing to that list years ago.

    I highly suggest the service.

    Good call.

We've been in the Window Cleaning business for 10 seasons now in one capacity or another. Worked for a company through high school and college, then bought that business and expanded it. We only added carpet cleaning last year as a way to expand again since we finally paid off the window cleaning business. I've found a lot of overlap between window and carpet customers. Most people who have their windows cleaned tend to have their carpets cleaned professionally as well, so I've noticed a lot of cross-selling and overlap. More business from the same customers!

I started working for my fathers window cleaning business back in the middle '60s. Many of the window cleanig customers wanted other services. That is what eventually led to the carpet cleaning business.

We worked in several small towns. A different town each day. Started the exterior of the business as soon as it was daylight. Walked for several blocks and cleaned almost every window. Then made the return trip and did the interiors after opening hours. Made a good days wages by 10:30 or 11:00 most days. Sometimes a residential job for the afternoons.

    Thumbs up Window cleaning

I started out in the window cleaning business when I came to the States. I did commercial window cleaning, mainly highrise, and from there got into the janitorial business. Window cleaning is very profitable and would make a great add on to a cc business.
Could be very profitable for you.

    Re: window cleaning

    Hi,

It's great that you are window cleaning in your cleaning business. This is really a profitable business if you'll get some good clients. The cost of window cleaning you can decide by analyse the competitor cost. It's up to you, you can charge a lot or you acn use medium range.

    Re: window cleaning

SAA and others, you mentioned cleaning inside window. Could you use the water fed pole to do inside windows that are 3 stories high? I have a construction cleaning job coming up and I was looking into buying one of those systems and thought it would be nice if it could clean the inside windows as well. The flooring is hard floor so as we cleaned someone could wetvac it up. Is this a viable method? How else do you clean 3 story interior windows from the ground?

    Re: window cleaning

Window cleaning is usually priced per pane. A pane is an undivided piece of glass. A slider for example would be two panes. The range for cleaning a pane is between $4 and $8 per pane. I have a window cleaning calculator on my site if you want to check it out. Click on window cleaning, then on pricing. I also charge $1 per screen which is common.

    Re: window cleaning

We do window cleaning too. Really, any cleaning job is a challenge unless you have the expertise in that focus area. If you are a start up, it helps to recruit experienced staff.

    Re: window cleaning

i just started window cleaning last year, i was seriously considering not doin it this year! in my area it seems like im a little high, im figuring my jobs per window and when i look at the clock when im done, im not exactly rakin it in! when i show up on the job i dont mess around but it takes what it takes to do the job and do it rite! no smudges, streaks, water marks on the edges, or little particals stuck to the window but my average hourly rate doesnt impress me. maybe im paying too much attention to detail!

    Re: window cleaning

well, it totally depends upon the clients requirements. If you are going to hire cleaning company for a contract basis then terms are different with compared to the short term services. Again, the pricing depends upon the no of windows, risk involved, for example.

    Re: window cleaning

The longer I clean windows the less I climb ladders. What I thought used to be accessible only by ladder I now use a pole or a water fed pole to do the same work in comparable time with comparable results. I actually find interiors more difficult to clean. Working around people's belongings, or having to reach large way up there windows, in a great room is a pane (pun intended). Same glass on the outside is a piece of cake.
