At Mcdonads today for a kids Birthday and it happened!

While At Micky dees today the window cleaner shows up. I think OK I'll watch him.

He is going a great jobs and all looks great - then:

He ask a customer if they would mind moving to another seat so he could clean that window !

Odd I think. The again - he ask someone else.

In total he ask three tables if they could move. One had two kids!!

Now is that what you would have done?

No way, but if McDonald's is paying him cheap, they probably don't care either.

    I don't see the problem.

If a client was standing in the middle of the carpet wouldn't you ask them to move or would you work around them?

Not the same in my opinion, Commercial and residential have different needs, this guy should have come in late to do windows, or when the sit down area shuts down for the night or is at its least busy time ... just my opinion, and yes I would ask a home owner if they did not catch the hint i was coming their way.....

If I was pressed for time I probably would have asked them to move, If not I would have waited. When cleaning a couple of resturants at night, I always call earlier in the day to confirm our appointment and starting time because we have a noise ordinance law here. If I was in the resturant eating I would not feel comfortable with the carpet cleaner cleaning next to me. Many times I was asked about what chem's I was using. I think it is common courtesy, which in my book goes a long way. spotman

I find it odd that a co. like Mcdonalds would do any type of maintenance claning during business hours.

around these parts they will reach around you with the spray bottle they dont care just saving a nickle to have an employee do it all. this is a right to work state.. means to the employee do it or youre fired. and you can actuall fire someone for have green eyes, a mohawk, and earring or even for having blonde hair if you dont like it. I am so not kidding. I got fired before by a racist black guy who said he dont like or tolerate the white race. I was shocked... he liked my wife just fine since she is cherokee.

Dear lord pat, did you just say W@#%^ex? that word is not allowed in the window cleaning community. LOL On a more serious note, you NEVER ask a customer to move in a resturant. Mc Donalds always tend to be busy, so you usually skip the booths that are filled with people, and when you are finished return to that area to see if that booth is empty. If the windows are not that bad, you can usually let the manager know, and tell them you will catch them next time. Management really seems to appreciate the fact that you are curtious to their clients, ensuring a pleasant dinning experience, even though it is Mc Donalds. I have even asked people who are in the middle of their meal who have started to get up for me, to sit back down until they are finished.

Re: At Mcdonads today for a kids Birthday and it happened!

i dont see what the problem is at all. the guy is there to do a job and if he needs them to move to be able to do it there is nothing wrong with nicely asking them to move for a few mins. Its not his fault that McDonalds wants him to come in at day time hours.

So when you are cleaning a commercial space and someone is in the way what do you do? Just not do that space? wait for them to move? That can be a very long time
I do a ton of commercial work and most of it is after hours but even then there are always a few people around. And the only thing to do is to ask them to move, there is nothing unprofessional about it. It would be very unprofessional to not do that area or wait for them to move and do nothing. I dont want to be paying my guys to wait for a person to move!

They are not your clients. They are your clients, clients. You are a stranger with no relationship with them what so ever. When you go to eat at McDonald's, do you ask people to move because you want their seat?

Re: At Mcdonads today for a kids Birthday and it happened!

I'm thinking if I was there and I had a job to do I would have to do something, I would probably be extremely polite about it and maybe even throw in a little humor, and try to work around them. Wouldn't be spraying windex or anything else tho, bucket with about 2 drops of dish detergent works fine then there is no overspray.

Or I might just say "can I just quickly get that window for one sec?" Most people would just stand up while I quickly do the window then sit right back down, but asking them to relocate is too much.

Your alternative is to either a) disgruntle your client by not getting the job done, or informing them the job was not done due to ... problems. or b) sit around all day waiting for each table to clear and taking 3.5 hours to do what could have been done in 15 mins.

Your employer doesnt want to hear about your problems. They want to see clean windows, done on time and an invoice on the desk.

Richard, I like the way you think. I just would have asked very very politely if I could take care of this window and it will only take two quick seconds.

I think he should have at least cleaned the windows where there were no people and went back to the others once they were finished eating. But who knows the circumstances, maybe he had to get them done before he could go home and was rushed? Who knows?
