    Service call vs Min price

ok i am taking a chance here. I very well my look like a idiot.... buuutt is there a differance between a service call and a min price... in other words... if someone called you late one nite and you went to extract water... is the service call added to the extraction or is it really just a min price for commming out...

It is usually the first hour of service but then the price drops dramatically. So I would say they are two different items.

the service call is for the technician comming in after hours to the shop and driving out to the job, the min. price would before extraction if the area was small. Look at the blue book for the description of the two, but in my book they are two different services. You have to pay your tech extra money to get up and come in right, So thats what that price is for. Then you have to pay for the gas and machine use time, either min for starting the machine, but mostly a price point to cut you between min. price and sq.ft.

ok so to be clear.... you are saying... exmample... firday night call to extract water.... blue book says charge $100 an hour(just example) and service charge it $150 so total bill is for $250 or is total bill for $150.... just want to make sure i understand this...I mean i have a 500 Min and there is no service charge in that... its just $500 even if bill does not come up to $500 which almost alway does....

The service call is usually made for emergency service like water extraction. A minimum charge would apply to all your work. A service call might be $100 daytime or $150 on nights and weekends and holidays. The service call is added to whatever the fee is for the work you did.

In your example, the total bill would be $250.

Service call covers your disrupted schedule and time driving to and form the job and so forth.

If someone calls me on Friday night it means put away the blue book and get out the check book!!!! A friend of mine is a locksmith. Friday @ 5:00 until 8:00 Monday morning is all 2x time. If they say anything he gives them the name of another locksmith and the number of the bar where he can be reached.

Love this one with the Bar I'll be at!!!

But yes you would ADD the Service call amount. I just charge a min depending on est travel time ( say 3 hours at 125.00)and then add the 125 to any other hours needed (say 2 momre)

So this example would be (3 * 125)+125+125= 625.0 for the 5 hours. (Yes I know others make more)

I have always gone by the blue book, but I do very little restoration.

    1) Service call is if its a small job during regular business hours its a minimum charge for a small job that is within one hour. my area 1 man & truck $125.20, 2 men w truck $186.50

    2) Emergency Service calls are after hours 1 man and truck $170.30 , 2 men and truck $262.25

That is blue book old pricing ( Edition 2007) so I'm sure its higher now. That is the minimum I charge I'm sure allot of you charge much more. Bill
