    Cimex vs. OP machine?

    Hey guys and gals!

I'm really starting to push the bonnet/encap thing and think I would be able to do a better job using a Cimex or dedicated OP machine over my 175.

If you were in my shoes, which machine would pick and why?

Does anyone out there just use the 175 and get good results? If so, what bonnets/pads do you recommend to use with the 175?

    Thanks, E!

What is your typical job? Residential, probably an OP machine. Commercial, go for the 'mex.

Don't have the job yet, just looking to make a purchase soon. It will probably more CGD than anything, just really don't want to buy 2 machines.

I agree with Dan, but I saw an orbital called square scrub and it looks nice, still I would like to know what people think about that machine.

    What about a CRB machine?

No pads to wear out, no pads to wash, actually lifts the pile, etc,

IMO the cimex is too heavy for me to lift but, it's a ffreat machine.
I use a orbot op machine by HOS i love this machine and I use white pads. The other machine above I tried out at the store and I wasn't happy with it. It get's costly when you have to buy new brushes for it. You end up buying a set according to the sales rep.

For what it is worth, there is no comparison, IMO, to a Cimex. I have used these machines for 35 years and have also helped a lot of cleaners get one of their own. One of the biggest things that I think many miss when they talk about a Cimex is it will work on just about any carpet with brushes as well as pads. As far as a machine that lifts the nap, the Cimex does that extremely well and will pull a lot of junk and garbage from the base of the yarns. THe counter rotating action of the machine is very unique in that it is the only machine that will agitate the entire yarn, every other machine attacks the yarn from one side primarilty, the Cimex agitates 'Around' the yarn, quite different in approach.

I also use CRB machines and love them as well, but they do not perform as a Cimex does. Also, the Cimex will not tear up seams or damage carpet from its action, whereas single disk machines and single rotating cylindrical brushes can do.

Many will complain about the weight of a Cimex, a simple solution to that would be a 15" machine instead of a 19" machine.

Here is a point many miss, this machine does an outstanding job on 'RESIDENTIAL' carpet. I use it all of the time in residential, on area rugs on commercial, everything!

Here is a little clip to show the safety of the machine. Notice the first clip shows the machine running over its own cord, try that with any other machine. The reason to think on something like this has to do with damage to the carpet. Some of these machines will cause damage. Some manufacturers have in print they do not want certain machines on their carpet, this is due to the damage they can and do cause. The Cimex, IMO, it the safest agitation machine that is in our industry but also the most aggressive in its soil suspension.

Here is a CRB machine and a Cimex both being operated by females, very easy to use

Here is a clip showing the Cimex in uses that you would never do with other machines, notice how safely it agitates

Just thought I wold share my thoughts on this subject, hope it has some value to some.

    LOL Locko!! Me too!!

Royal, thanks for the info! Now in the video, are you just using the Cimex as an agitation tool? Or using it to encap? Those brushes look like they would be good for agitation! Do you happen to have any videos using the pads for encap? Thanks

I was actually concerned about this too when I saw the cost of them (~$150-200/set), but after running the numbers it seems to be pretty much even with the cost of pads, lifespan, washing, etc.

Basically I took the so called 'best' figures given to me by the sales reps, averaged them with what I could find from actual users, then cut lifespans by about 1/2 to get a worst case scenario and everything was pretty even (this was including the cost of disposable sponge compound).

Basically brushes cost more but last far longer than pads, well so as best as I can determine anyway. I have not yet pulled the trigger on a CRB and the Cimex is a really close second, but unless I can find some compelling evidence otherwise it is looking like a CRB for me.

    Floorguy,

I use it for both encap and agitation. I have always agitated with the Cimex and then extract. The machine has a tank so it is usually filled with solution to add to the pre-spray; to apply boosting agents or to simply encap with.

As for the brushes, they have about a 1500 hour life on them, that is a long time and a lot of cleaning work.

Here is a little clip showing encap cleaning with the brushes on residential carpet
    [ame=http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd17/mickydog/carpet%20cleaning/?action=view&current=MVI_0605.flv][/ame]

This is another job of just encap cleaning with pads, sorry no video on this computer, it is on my other computer but at least this photo will give you the idea.

    Hope this helps

    SAA

Thanks Royal for those cimex videos . What hwe machine do you use to extracts with after you cimex the residential .

    Is that a 15 inch cimex ?

Do the brushes get all gunked up with carpet fiber and hair like a brush does on a 175 rotary ?

Thanks for all the info on your cimex machine .

good work Chica , I was wondering the same thing about the cost of OP cleaning vs. CRB or Cimex .

From what I understand the CRB brushes last for about 1 million sq. ft.

the dry cleaning compound can be .02 -.03 cents per sq. ft. on heavy traffic lanes .

you have to figure in the time and cost for laundry w/ OP

You will have to look into the time spent cleaning also .

The OP machine tend to be cheaper , but they could damage carpet more then the CRB or Cimex and the carpet mills will accept the CRB machine for not voiding the warrantee.

if you go with the CRB from brush and clean you can get the Renovater trays to pick up alot of gunk and the dry compound .

whittaker has nice machines too but they dont offer the renovator trays .

let us know what you decide to go with .

Yes, it is a 15" machine and if you are cleaning a staple yarn, you will get fibers built up in the brushes. If you stay on top of it, not too much to clean but if one gets a little lazy and does not keep them clean, they can be a chore to clean out. Many times they will keep themselves clean if you run them over other carpet.

As for what extraction equipment I use, for 25 years I used truck mounts to extract, but for the last 10 years, I now use portables. This has to do with the clientele I work for. Love truck mounts but portables are more practical for what I do now. My primary extraction unit is a Steamin Demon.

    Take care,
    SAA
