Not Happy with My first bonnet experience

I'm sure this has something to do with the chemical and my first crack at actually doing a bonnet job.

I vacuumed then pre sprayed 2 area rugs. I aggitated lightly and then went over the area rugs with the bonnet. Occasionally for harder area's I sprayed a little more of the prespray chemical.

(The prespray I used was a low pH2 or 3) I know it's nothing i've read from say vacaway or any of the other chems used out there but I was giving this a shot. I like using my truck mount but I'm always up for trying something that'll make the job look better......

    What did I do wrong?
    before

    after

    before

after(this one, I'm pretty sure you can see the obviouse differance and where I couldnt get the stains out...it just stayed black)

unless you used a chem formulated to leave in the carpet , your going to get muddled results .

Basically , you aggitated the carpet - rinse it out now and get superior results

James, my dislike of the job stems from my ignorance with bonnet/op cleaning. I used a neutralizer, low ph chem for pre spray. I realize this isn't the best for doing what needs to be done. i've ordered some sample chems from vacaway so I can give it a real chance.

I did try and HWE the blueish rug after I was done and the results weren't any better.

    "What did I do wrong"

You cleaned it on site. There is no way you can remove all of the dry soil on site. If you have to clean them on site take it outside and lay on a tarp and vac the from and back until no more dust come out of it.

You cleaned it on a wood floor. There is a chance you could damage the floor either by the machine, the cleaning solution, or the rug bleeding.

I'm not sure if you used the correct cleaning solution. If it wasn't wool you could have used higher PH. I like Vackaway too.

    If that's a 175 you didn't OP the rug.

Why did you use a green stripe pad? Maybe a more absorbent wetter pad would have worked better.

OP and bonnet cleaning won't always remove all of the spots

I would not try to only bonnet clean an area rug. Bonnets still do have their uses, but it is an old and pretty outdated form of cleaning. They are still good for low moisture cleaning in some commercial buildings, encapping, and even as a prescrub for carpet or rug cleaning. If you had scrubbed these with a bonnet and immediately took your truck mount and extracted it would be like night and day. After the bonnet cleaning did it's work they would have extracted very easily. Of course a thorough vacuuming should take place before you do anything else. You can also take a dry bonnet after the cleaning of any very absorbent rug or carpet and use it to get excess moisture out so it dries much faster and put a fan or fans in place to further speed the drying. I use the cotton type most often, but the type you have is good for agitation before cleaning with your truck mount. I still do almost all of my area rug cleaning on site too because I don't have a facility to take them to and I refuse to do them in my garage or out on the patio. I have done a few at home, but if the customer brings them to me and picks them up I usually charge less than if I had to go out to their home. Better luck next time. I hope this helps some.

Encapsulation primary use is in the commercial application, but with that said many have found other great uses for it!

Encapsulation is a great method for doing a surface cleaning of an area rug! You may find far better result when you get the sample kit. One thing you want to look out for when doing Encap is not over wetting the carpet. You are only cleaning the fibers and not getting the backing wet, when applying you products you want to get a light whitening not a heavy foam then scrub the rug until it looks clean. At excellentsupply.com we are available for tech support over the phone if you ever need it, and we also have free samples, to try.

In my humble opinion, when you get serious about residential cleaning, you will learn how to hwe properly. If you want to focus only on commercial, you will be able to get away with bonnet, OP, or straight encap cleaning for a time.

But eventually, it all comes back to hwe.

Only for method of the month club members Marty. How many methods and machine have you gone through?
I am still cleaning and amazing my customers after 37 years with the same type equipment, and don't bother with the "but I have learned to do a better job bs".
