As some of you already know, I am remodeling my mom's house. She has wood floors in a lot of the house an I need to know what to do to fix it up. I'm thinking it may need to be sanded and refinished but have no experience in this department. I have small scratches in it. Is that an indication it needs to be sanded?
Can I just get away with a good cleaning, and if so what is the proper procedure for that? Here are some pictures.

First you need to determine if it's a wax, or a polyurethane. Scrape it with a knife in an inconspicuous place. Wax will roll up in a ball, polyurethane will flake.

Bridgepoint has a system for polyurethane, and I'm still trying to figure out the paste wax thing.

Ahh man, I wish you were local, I'd love to test out the new cleaning/refinishing products for wood out on that.

Looks like a prime canadate for it. They aren't that bad, but are kinda dulled and lightly scratched..

That's we're I'd start, get some great experience in a very lucrative area not many do.

Full sanding and refinishing is an art. I've watched guys put there heart into them and still come out sketchy.

Torrey, Just want to make sure i'm understanding you correctly. You're saying to use some products to clean and refinish the floor as opposed to sanding it down, correct? If so, any suggestions on the type of products to use? Thank again.

Yes, I'm gonna search Jon-don to see what they offer, but I had been looking at this a while back and heard good things. But I don't have any real experience with it.

Are you saying you can determine wax vs. poly just by looking?

    Yes.
I'm telling you that I grew up riding on glue buckets in the back of empty dodge vans that my dad drove 7 days a week while out installing every type of flooring they make. In fact I would venture to say it has been sanded and finished once already by the looks of it. You can see how it's darker in the beveled edges and plugs. Then just poly coated. Old school.

    I'm 99.9% sure. The .01 I could care less.

Nice. I hate you, but gotta give you props. I should say I hate the ease with which you make that statement...but you get the idea, right?

Whatchu know about paste wax floors? I've got a lady who wants me to wax her 1924 hardwood floor. I'm looking for steel wool pads for my Cimex, and one cat told me to light the ****ed paste wax on fire, let it get runny, and pour it out on the floor. That makes me cringe. Help a fella out?

Ya know as close as you are to most of the major carpet mills, you should go tour them. It can be quit the learning experience.

I was talking to one of our reps about doing a tour of another in georgia later this year when we go down for anohter golf outing they sponsor. I just sold another House full of this new "magic Fresh" carpet today, they make it and guarantee 10 year texture and no pet odor and staining. crazy.

Its like fish in a barrel when your cleaning pet piss out and they tell you how they want new carpet in the rest of the hose. Bam, whip out a sample board I carry in the van and measure it up. Then i pass it over to our sales guy to wrap it up.

Honestly if your not partnered with a flooring sales company, your loosing out on alot of opporatunity.

I only tell/sell what is stated, I don't see it holding up quit like it says, but that's the manufacturers problem, they are pretty good at replacing a floor if it doesn't follow thru with what it says.
Here's some Shots of the back of the sample and info for it.

Dude, I could tell you a shure fire way to get atleast one if not a few Carpet stores recomending you every day.

And if you get comfortable enough you could make a living on sales alone..

My plan is to get off the truck and do soley sales for cleaning and new floors, while managing my Bro in the TM

Torry, You can't leave us hanging like that. What's the sure fire way? Can you hook a brother up :)

P.S. Also, the wood floor in the photos are not really big planks as they appear to be. They are littlle 2" planks. Someone grooved the floor and put dowels in to make it appear to have big 6' planks. Why I have no idea. The floor has been sanded down at least twice for surr. I can see the different levels at the walls under the molding.

If that was my moms house I would go for the
full refinish. Very labour intensive but worth ther esults. You can change the stain and go with
A comercial grade gym floor finish. Do it once right and never do it again.
