I offer both standard and "green' cleaning options to customers. Anyone else?

CRAP! I wrote a whole reply to this that took so long I got logged out. The basic idea is that green chemicals do not truly exist (because of inefficient production and marketing processes). Even if they did, your truck mount running while you clean is not green. And unless you empty your waste tank into a Department of Environmental Management approved sanitary sewer, your disposal methods are not green.

If my customers want to pay extra for green chemicals, I am not gonna stop them. But I tell them up front I'm not a green company. The thing that disturbs me most is that the people who seem the most pious about saving the environment are the first to abandon the idea once I tell them green chemicals will cost extra.

I don't want to discourage anybody from the whole green thing. This is purely all my opinion, and I'm not really very well researched on the matter. I am just automatically skeptical about stuff.

I can see where The Eyeball is coming from. Over here in the UK there are some major debates on a number of carpet cleaning forums around the green issue. I don't think any carpet cleaning service provider can be totally green but, my company try and I emphasize try do our part with our carbon footprint.

I have yet to use many such products but I have heard they don't work as well from my distributor. Any opinions?

"Green" can mean more "Green" in the bank when done correctly. However this is secondary to helping the enviroment of course1

I use a number of green solutions and have had some excellent results from these products. But, on the other side of the coin they would have limited results on trashed and badly soiled carpets. From a customer point of view they don't seem to interested as long as the carpets are clean?

    <~~

What exactly is "green", the chemicals you use? Recycled paper invoices? Electric TMs? Can it really be defined?

    Answer: No

The big cleaning companies like Stanley, Coit, Sears, ect have all switched to 'green' or at least safer adaptations in their cleaning products within the last few years. Having used these green products from my employer, I'd have to say I haven't noticed a decline in quality but the new cleaning agent line seems to work much better, especially if you mix the pre-spray piping hot.

I know the truck mount itself isn't "green" but I think the main issue customers are concerned about is cleaning agents in their home. Can get way too out there considering the drive to the job or use of equipment causing an entire company not to be a 'green' company.

In reference to "Green Cleaning Products", it's all about indoor air quality. THIS IS THE KEY TO SELLING......when you are giving a
customer a choice in a product. They can choose the tried and true....... (High voc's, butyals, glycol ethers, solvents ,silicones and cancer
causing agents) or a "Green Product"........that is much safer for the air they breathe. (non-toxic, all natural, no harsh fumes, no artificial fragrances, and safer for those with chemical sensitivities).

exactly... green is such a loose term. everyone has there own definition... define it

I have found out most people who want green want something safe for them, pets, kids. As long as you rinse all your chemicals out - that is most important for the customer.

It pisses me off because alot of companies say they are 100% green in my area and they buy normal chemicals cause I see them at my distributor.

I'm tempted to try procyon, but, was told to mix 1lb per 5qt then 1 1/2 per 5gallon rinse? One thing I don't like about powder pre spray is that you need boiling hot water to break it all down, and even then, it really doesn't ALL break down.

I only offer " Green" carpet cleaning service. I have been the "Green" cleaner since I started about a year ago. The few jobs I have got were people wanting a less toxic cleaning service.
