My original twin v-grooved blower belts are approaching 3,500 hrs. I have never adjusted the tension on them. They are not loose or too tight. Other than checking for cracks, and seeing the occasional "belt dust", how do I know when they need to be changed?? I do believe in preventative maintenance but on the other side, the old saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Should I wait til they break?? Am I overacting?? I would like to hear from others. thanks wayne-spotman

ps. I tried to do a search but came up empty

If it bothers you to the point of obsession, you should change them.

The problem is when it breaks and it puts you out of work till its fixed . I change my V-belts every 500 hours its cheap and I no it want cause me problems later. I am paranoid about breakage and try to keep up on all the maintenance even going to the point that every 25 hours I change my motor oil every 500 pump and blower. I no things break i just don't want them to be things I could prevent.
    Good Luck

I change mine every 500 hours or so. I had them break once and break the "fuel rail" on my fuel injection system. It ended up costing me a couple days, pissed off customers and more money than the stupid belts.

I can't afford to be down and don't have the patience to be down for repairs.

    belts are cheap
