In front of the customer ALWAYS and bring some little dot stickers to mark areas let's them know your not a fool and you won't fall for that "it wasn't like that before" and Pictures and lots of them, even one with the inspection report on the rug in the customers house so they can't say thats not my rug. Doing the inspection in fornt of the customer is a good idea when practical. Some cleaners may accept a number of rugs at a time or have rugs dropped off at their facility. It is notr alwyas possible to do a through and complete inspection while the customer waits. Too many busy and/or impatient people.

A complete inspection includes measurements, photos, checking for bleeding which requires waiting for a spot to dry and further steps. Most folks won't wait around.

Do the inspection before you do any cleaning. TAke photos to document any potential problem areas.

You could get a waiver if they don't have time for pre-existing conditions.

Inspect with the client - if they are not available you take photos and call with the inspection over the phone, and confirm the conversation with them via email - sending photos if needed.

It is really best to inspect the rug in front of the customer so you can talk about it.. You can easily ask question if you have notice something..
