I was going to descale but should I run the heat exchanger the whole time or switch back to exhuast too?

The way I have to do mine is I leave the exhaust diverter off, but turn the temperature dial all the way up. You don't want it getting extremely hot when descaling and you don't want the solenoid dumping any water while descaling. If you leave the temp dial down the solenoid will get triggered early and dump all your descaler into the waste tank. I run an open hose with a ball valve from the solution outlet on the machine back to the water box for about 20 minutes. I strongly advise keeping a close eye on it while doing a descale. Another thing you can do if you like is to either buy or make a recirculating hose that takes the water from your solution outlet and back in to your water hose inlet. That is really the best setup for descaling.

There is a specific procedure for descaling the 405.
Get the print out from a dealer and do it according to the directions.
    Maybe Ara has one?
You take out the diverter bypass plug, that way you will not overheat and will get the correct flow.
I would send you my detailed list but I gave it to the person who bought mine.

Ok one thing I don't understand is how are the heat exchangers going to get descaled if I bypassed them and switch the diverted back to exhaust?

The water always goes through the exhaust heat exchanger. The only thing you are diverting is the exhaust from the engine. I leave it in muffler mode don't need the excess heat. Don't forget to take out the heat bypass screen and orifice. I use and old screen with the screen removed as a plug. I've seen a lot of screens plug up almost instantly after starting to descale.

But if I took the filter out next to the orifice that would mean all the scale could get clogged in my temp solenoid right? Or does it stay closed?
