    What vehicle is best suited for a truck mount/ Slide out unit. I am new at this and would like to research size recommended including fuel economy/load capacity. I am sure other details play a great part and would like to hear them.
    Kind regards,
    Tim

    Chevy makes a good Express van. It would depend on how much storage you're wanting to have for tools, air movers ect. If you need more storage you could consider a box truck.

    Personally I find a trailer to be very effective.

    Many different truckmount units at different weights and sizes. A few of the smaller units will fit into mini vans. Some need a box truck.

    I had two different TMs (big for their time, but average size now) that were in 3/4 ton extended vans. I loved the available room for extra equipment, especially when doing restoration. Eventually I had to beef up the suspension due to tire wear.

    If I was doing it over, would have selected 1 ton vans. But I did carry a lot more than just the truck mount.

    Check with the manufacturer or supplier when you narrow down your search to a particular truck mount.

    Tim;

    A lot of our TMs go into 3/4 ton vans, but our frames & tanks are aluminum so they weigh only about 800# (less than steel frame models).

    If the TM you choose is heavier, then I would go with a 1 ton van.

    We have used them all.

    #1. Ford 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Much heavier duty than the others without a harsh ride
    #2 Dodge. 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Easier to work on. Not quite as HD as the Ford

    Never again: Chevy or GMC. Too many problems to list, but starting with fuel pumps and intake manifolds
