This one has urine stains. About 5 of them. The rest of the rug is lightly soiled. I was thinking of using a reducer on the urine. Any ideas?
Re: Weekly Rug #4-ID & Clean Hello Pakistani Zigler wool on cotton foundation persian knot (also indian ziegler) very sensitive because of chemical wash. No. reducer will bleach the colors. what about the suggestions of Scott like TCU or medic wool? jamshid rowshan
Re: Weekly Rug #4-ID & Clean You could use 50/50 vinegar and water to flush the urine out. If you know where the urine is you could spot treat with that mix. Also - something I used for many years - bac-out. Loved the stuff but costs quite a bit to use.
Re: Weekly Rug #4-ID & Clean Hi Rob, Given a choice I would go with a Hard Acid over an enzyme cleaner. Urine leaves salts. The salts are hrad and crystalline. Acid and flushing break them down where they can be washed away. As a caution Jamshid Rowshan is right about it being Pakistani or Indian. The back is rough and the wool is fairly coarse. That is often a clue that the rug may be woven with wool from dead sheep. In the slaughter houses they hit the hide with lye and scrape the wool. It is the worst possible wool for rugs but it regularly show up in the parking lots of the big box store tent sales. Rub your fingers over a cleanert area and if a lot of wool rubs off you need to be very gentle with washing. Paul is going to call you today about the DC Rug Tour so it is a great time to talk pissy rugs with him. Best wishes, Barry http://www.SpongoBongo.com
Re: Weekly Rug #4-ID & Clean Soaking in Wool Medic or TCU Neutralizer if the dyes are color stable. Be sure to check first. You may need to apply Dye Loc first. I would not use a reducer on this rug or at least only use it as a last resort salvage attempt with the rug owner knowing the possible dangers.
