It has a Chevy 350 engine. before I left last week it ran fine with no problems. Then when I tried to start it this morning it wouldn't turn over. So I jump started it and drove it to a pest job. When I got there I let it keep running. So it ran a total of a half an hour. But when I drove it back to the shop and cut it off, I tried to restart it. It wouldn't crank over again. I figure maybe a dead cell or a charging problem. Any ideas of what to look for??

Alternator Maybe?:AddEmoticons04259: Or maybe you just need a new battery? If you go to Autozone they can check for both.....

There are a couple of things you need to look at. First you need to check the voltage on your battery. What is the voltage while the engine is running and what is the voltage at rest after your lights have been on for a couple of minutes. You need to check your voltage after the surface charge is bled off. If the voltage drops rapidly your battery is bad.
The battery at rest should remain charged for a period of time. However, there is a limit. One thing to concider in this instance would be your voltage regulator. Not only does the voltage regulator prevent the battery from over charging but it also serves to keep the battery charged at rest. Granted you do not have a parasitic load.
Sounds to me like a bad battery or connection! It just may be that the battery is not holding a charge.

Thanks Ara. I took this info to my guy who does repairs. He said you we're spot on. It was the battery. However he said sometimes he gets false readings with the charging system, so he told me to keep an eye on the charging. But he said he is 98% sure it was just the battery. Surprised me. I didn't think a battery could just die out of nowhere but hey, it is Monday right? :bigsmiley:
