Do you think a van partition is a bad idea ? I like my partition/divider but my TM mechanic says it restricts the air flow and can make it overheat and makes it difficult to work on...Does anybody else have a partition ? And have you had any problems..

I took mine out. It was great in the winter because the heat stayed up front. But it was too restrictive. Now we just order our vans with rear heaters. But thats just me. :)

If your machine is located in your side door right behind the seat I wouldn't install a partition for reasons you mentioned. If the machine is mounted in the rear of the van then a partition shouldn't be a problem. I do have a partition and have had no problems as long as I keep all doors open. My machine is mounted in the back of the van.

My TM is in the rear also. My partition, which I made of plywood covered in I/O carpet, is valuable tool storage space on both sides. All my tile tools hang on hooks on the backside, upholstery tools on the frontside, behind the seats. It also gives me a place to slide in a six foot foldup table which we use for upholstery. There is a cutout in the center though so I can use my rearview mirror. I normally have my rear and side doors open for airflow.
I have'nt had a problem with overheating yet.

I have a plywood partition (bulkhead is the more common term). It is needed here because the back of my van is insulated and I keep it heated in the winter but if it was open to the front i would lose all my heat. I do have a cutout in it but have sliding doors to close that at night when I heat it. It is also good for security since the front of your van is a lot less secure then the rear of your van. There is also the fact that if you are ever in an accident and don't have one you are going to be sharing the drivers area with everything that was in the back. Plenty of people have been killed from flying debris inside their vehicles, so yeah seespotsrun, I wouldn't hang my upholstery tools on the front of the wall if I were you.

As for the cooling issue, that is simple, i just installed a 6inch cooling fan in the bulk head , it blows right on the side of the engine and sucks all the cool air from up front into the back. Mine is 110V but you can just get a 12V and wire it to your TM battery if you don't have a gen.

it doesn't restrict air flow. You should have your side and rear doors open anyway. It does take up a little extra room though and depending on which one, it can keep the heat from the front.

Personally, I can't hardly take the a/c after working up a nice sweat anyway though. lol

lol. that's actually why the tech said to take it out. it's easier to install and certain maintenances without it. Other than a slight reach, it doesn't block air flow though. Can't believe you went 1,000 hours. Sounds like the Prochem bypass screen?
